» Chain wear?
Jul 19, 2018 - 10:02 PM - by Alkers
Coming home from work the other day, I felt the back of the bike pulsing underneath me - immediately though I had a puncture so pulled over and couldn't see anything wrong. Nursed it home on the M50...

Put it up on the paddock stand and when I run in first gear the chain is jumping all over the place. The chain was maybe a bit loose so I tightened it but still the same issue on the paddock stand. There is also a loudish knocking noise from in around the front sprocket even when I rotate the wheel very slowly by hand. There's no play at all in either sprocket or the wheel.

I want to rule out wear on the sprockets (I don't think they're warn that badly to cause the... [Read More]

» Motorbike parking at Dublin Airport
Jul 19, 2018 - 9:14 PM - by dawiseguy
Apologies if there is a current thread on this but couldn't find it - the most recent one is like 3 or 4 years old as far as I can see.

Anyone know if parking your motorbike as the airport is ok? Flying out from Terminal 1 on Saturday afternoon for 10 days - I presume you can just nip round the barrier at Terminal 1 multi-storey and should be grand?

Any advice, tips and whatnot would be appreciated!

» Gearing calculator
Jul 19, 2018 - 8:42 PM - by efanton
Found this little gem while searching the web. not what I was looking for but instantly saw how cool this was and how useful it would be to anyone thinking about changing the gearing of their bike.

It can even autoload factory specs for a load of bikes, so no need to be counting the teeth on your sprockets if your bike is factory spec.

Im sure this is going to be useful to some of you.

» 2018 BMW G310R and G310 GS launched, then recalled
Jul 18, 2018 - 7:40 PM - by Admin
BMW Motorrad has recalled 2,376 units of the G 310 R and the G 310 GS motorcycles in the US. The affected motorcycles are said to have an issue concerning the side stand and a part of the frame that is connected to the side stand. The recall has been done by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that states that prolonged use of the side stand might lead to breakage from the part of the frame holding it.

Is there anywhere in Dublin where I can just walk in and get one?

With shipping and stuff, I'd rather a local shop get the yoyos.

For a Shoei XR1100.

For those who still remember the smell of a GP grid.

Sitting in a mostly empty bar somewhere in Australia in 1998, Rich Oliver spoke candidly.

The then factory Yamaha Superbike rider had as an audience a couple of motojournalists, and a lot of empty barstools.

While racing, Oliver was renown for his secrets in machine prep, training and even his racing lines. But, on that afternoon in Australia, perhaps it was the alcohol which loosened him up. Or it may have been the subject, one clearly very dear to him.

"On a Superbike, yeah it makes a huge amount of power, almost too much power, but if you look at the engine, it's this very large block of cylinders, a bank of carbs and everything that comes with it, huge radiators,... [Read More]

Faugheen 50 Road Race Ė Saturday 21st & Sunday 22nd July 2018

Grids are full, with only limited room in the 125cc, 250cc/400cc Championships and they look fantastic! Itís almost as if itís the complete list of Irish Road Racing ranking from whose leading the Championship in each and every class from top to bottom! Practically every racer has confirmed entry. The list is too long for each class to include below, so I have just highlighted those few generally at the top of their classes.
Leading the charge in Faugheen this year in the National classes is Derek McGee,
Derek Sheils, Michael Sweeney, Paul Jordan, Thomas Maxwell, Kevin Fitzpatrick and circuit newcomer Davy Todd and not forgetting Club Members Brian McCormack and Graham Kennedy who will all be... [Read More]

» Just bought a 2012 ZZR 1400
Jul 16, 2018 - 10:35 PM - by padraic2271
I sold my 950 supermoto at the weekend with the intention of scaling down on the amount of bikes I have, the wife had picked out a new kitchen and all was well with the world...

That is until last night, over a few whiskeys and browsing ebay, I came across a 2012 ZZR1400 for ok money, now I've always had a soft spot for the original ZZR, and I came close to buying one of the 2012 models not long after they were launched as in my opinion there is something about them, the last of the big bikes in a world full of shrinking sportsbikes, so before I knew what had happened I had hit the 'buy it now' button.

I'm still trying to justify it to myself, and the wife Bikes are... [Read More]

» Head machining recommendations?
Jul 16, 2018 - 9:03 PM - by jake361
I'm looking for someone to cut the valve seats on a drz400 head to match new valves.

Can anyone recommend someone in the country that could do this? Preferably a place that does regular work on bikes?

I've tried a couple local places so far (Wexford) and they've said they can't do it without lapping which can't be done on bike valves as the coating will be ruined.

Cheers 👍

The bike is spotless, got really lucky, it's like driving a new bike. What do ye think of the exhausts? Didn't like them at first but they are growing on me. I have the originals and cannot decide if the bike looks better with current exhausts r the originals?

Have any of you good people who are in NO way mechanically-minded ever built a kit bike?!

I know they're not as common as kit cars, but variations can be gotten.

I'm 100% not mechanically-minded but I think I'd enjoy putting the parts together following instructions. Like a LEGO project.

Is there anything I need to do differently.
I'm going to remove the rimlock and blank the hole because I don't think I'll be needing it . I'll be running the tyres on 20+ psi so shouldnt have any problems with slipping.

Jul 13, 2018 - 12:00 PM - by Southern Rider
My father has a 76 Honda CD175, has punctured twice in one week, the mechanic who looked at it thinks with the weather the tyre is slipping on the rim, and pulling the tube causing it to tear at the valve

Any idea on how to stop this, or is it just a case for a new tyre.

I should say the tyre on it has no use done whatever.

» What are the bikes used in Classic road racing?
Jul 13, 2018 - 10:22 AM - by Quello Serio
I don't know much about road racing, but having been to the Skerries races this year, I've decided (again) that old bikes are better than modern bikes. They look better, they sound better, they smell better.

Can anyone give some information on the bikes used in the 'Classic' races? They all look similar, like a Norton Manx. Is that what they are? Or Replicas?

They sound like 4 strokes, so why do they smell like two strokes?

They look like they are able to keep up with modern sportsbikes, which seems strange for such an old design.

Pint sized Dani Pedrosa will step down from his MotoGP career at the end of a shitty 2018 season plagued with injuries, crashes and an underwhelming performance on the factory Honda.

Pedrosa says he did have some good options to continue into next season but was super pissed off with Jorge Lorenzo for taking his slot to run alongside Marq Marquez for the 2019 season at Honda, and that it was time to call it a day.
