Aug 16, 2017 - 9:28 PM - by Adamb123
Hi guys now that i'm planning on getting a new bike by the weekend my old bike is still sitting there the last 8 months. its a 92 Kawasaki Balius.
Im just throwing it up here first before donedeal to see would anyone have any interest in taking it as a project bike as its not running at the moment. my mechanic told it it was a cracked cylinder but i havent a clue how severe the crack is or if its fixable or not. its only going to be sitting there now and i havent the space for both bikes. i would have liked to keep it to get to learn more about motorbikes myself but theres just no space. even if i got 200 quid or something for it i wouldn't mind i bought it for 800 and put at least 1000 into it and then it just cost to much to fix again.
if anyone has any interest let me... [Read More]

Aug 16, 2017 - 4:58 PM - by 2shea
Anyone here own a Versys 1000? If so what do you think of them?

I sold the Versys 650 last weekend and have narrowed it down to a 3 possible bikes, Versys 1000, Tenere 1200 or VFR 1200 Crosstourer so far the Versys seems the best value...only thing is it missing is a shaft drive like the other two.

Was down at Lee Honda at the weekend, and saw a Stomp bike, about 3/4 the size of a normal cross bike, and I thought it would be a bit of fun for around the farm.

Anybody any experience of them.

» Should I import from the UK
Aug 14, 2017 - 9:15 PM - by Adamb123
Hi guys noobie here
just looking for some advice on buying a new bike. looking for a nice CBR600F. few nice ones around Ireland but the market in the UK and Germany are a good bit better and wondering is it worth the hassle?

I have a total of 3000 to spend so its not a crazy budget but would it be worth importing an older bike such as a 03 CBR 600F? some of the bikes in Germany look really well looked after with such low mileage compared to Irish bikes and around 1000 cheaper but with the cost of shipping it would it be worth it?

I'm only on my provisional licence so otherwise i would travel over myself and bring it back but the insurance wont cover me outside of Ireland so i'll have no one to physically look at the bike before i buy. Am i better... [Read More]

Where's the best place to get a leather jacket altered? Need the arms and chest taken a bit? I needed to order the bigger size to get the torso length as I'm tall. It's a Dainese jacket, would they be able to do a good job on it or make a shite of it?

Would there be anyone down around that Tullamore area the could load me a rattle gun or an Air impact wrench?

I've tried to shift it with a 4ft breaker bar and not a sniff of it coming off.

» Back box fell off
Aug 13, 2017 - 11:41 AM - by the dessert fox
Hi lads
Picked up a VFR 800 yesserday from CCs. Unfortunately, the back box parted company with it somewhere between Ballinasloe and Craughwell on the old N4. Even more unfortunately, Christie had put the manual, spare keys etc in it. Any body doing that route keep an eye out please. I was heading west obviously. Tis very bumpy on the run into Kilreekil, so might head up that way myself today.
cheers.

Hi all
Just fitted a SW Motech main stand on my tiger 800.
No problem at all with the fitting . But, when the stand is in use it is almost vertical , It's way too easy to push the bike forward off the stand .Anyone else come across this problem?
Must check if I could take a couple of mm off the shoulder of the stand to allow it sit back more. Any info most welcome
Thanks

» Earplugs
Aug 12, 2017 - 12:03 PM - by GONKO
So as I am a new rider, I've yet to use them. I've noticed that the wind noise on my commute is really loud, to the point I cant even hear the engine, surrounding traffic etc. I'm mainly on the nifty fifty doing 100-110kph .

From reading about, people say they are a must. So are there any types you'd recommend. Id like to hear the bike obviously, just drown out wind noise frequencies etc......assuming certain ear plugs can do this.

I also get alot of buffeting while riding (sv650s curvey) so not sure if this is a characteristic of the machines fairing/screen or if I'm sitting in a bad spot etc.

Any help and advice would be much appreciated.

» VRT and VAT
Aug 11, 2017 - 8:41 PM - by Airoshane
Made a schoolboy error and produced a bike at the VRT centre with 3500 miles on the clock. Apparently anything under 3700 is liable for VAT as well as VRT. VRT is 500 plus 1500 VAT! Bike is a 2 year old enduro that I bought in the UK and imported.

Walked away when they asked for 2K. Went back a week later with the miles above the threshold and they said that the VAT must be paid either way as it is recorded in their system.

I have heard that even if I sell the bike that the new owner will still be charged the VAT. (Sounds a bit crazy really)

Does anyone know a loophole for this scenario. I am fully aware that it is totally against EU law to demand that VAT is paid twice on an item but try telling that to revenue. I'm not even sure if exporting... [Read More]
