Default Is this rust normal or too much? Advice for buying a used bike

Hey guys, hope everyones staying wrapped up and warm in this crap going on outside. Before the storm started, I went to view this used bike I was very interested in. It's a 1.5 year old MT03, with only around 8k Kms on the clock, so basically in new condition. Bike is wonderful to look at, and I've done all of my basic checks (brakes, forks, suspension, lights and electrics, brake fluid and oil level, chain lube and tension) and all seems to be fine. 3000 km since last service at 5k, and bike still taxed and under manufacturers warranty for another few months till july. The one and only issue I've seen on it that I didn't like was the substantial amount of rust on the headers for 1.5 year old bike. Now this could be the fact that I've never ridden this class of bike before and maybe the headers are normal to rust this way, but thought I'd ask what you guys think. Here is a picture of em:

Thanks and stay safe!

my 05 Kwak had similar after 1.5 years but was used in the wet, kwaks are notorious for rusty downpipes though

Looks bad enough on a year and a half old bike..I ve had much older bikes that did nt look that bad.....they might still be solid but just looks shocking on a nearly new bike...

Could the fact that it was used in all conditions make it normal or still? I mean other than those headers the bike seems clean as a whistle, and I even called the dealer who says its been kept in shape and brought in for every nook and cranny by the owner

Wow, they are very rusty - hard to believe the bike is under 2 years old. The other bolts look a bit corroded too, although that is normal enough on that engine.

Is it a UK import ? - looks like the effect of road salt never being washed off.

Personally, I would want the price reduced to reflect the cost of new headers.

Yeah this bike was used in the wet and winter, which it will be by me also since I use the bike for everything. Ye think that could be the reason?

If used in all weather that would do it.... Just looks like he never looked after them.... If the rest of the bike is as clean as you say... I just think those headers would take from the look of a .... What I'd consider a very nearly new bike...

Here a couple pics of the bike, and the rear slip on. Other than the fecking headers i mean i dont know what could be an issue with it.

No the owner bought it brand new in megabikes July 2016. I threw a couple pics from the bike in the other reply, and I can't really fault it other than the headers (from my basic overall viewing). I do like the thing and the price but I don't want these to be causing me trouble, or if they're even fixable.

This may be a long shot and I'm talking out of my arse, but this bike is still 1.5 years old and under warranty. Could that be covered by warranty for shoddy paintwork or something? I understand the headers rusting, they always do, but this seems a bit excessive for the timeframe it was given

They look solid enough, you could get an extra few quid off because of it, but id be wire brushing them and using a regular dose of acf50 on them, it burns off mostly but leaves a bit of a coating on them, applied regularly it should stop them getting worse.

Never owned a new bike or nearly new bike so know fuck all about warranties...but with after market can fitted and headers that look like they were neglected I'd be surprised if ur warranty covers it.... I think just take into account the price of new headers....

I'd be factoring in the price of a new stainless exhaust. If it's that bad now what's it going to be like in another year or 2.

I agree with everyone who's basically said to use this as a bargaining chip in price negotiations. I wouldn't consider it a dealbreaker, just a minor cosmetic letdown.

By the way, I've used stove black on the ZRX in the past (it could use being re-done, once the weather gets nicer), and it makes the headers and exhaust look pretty nice.

They are not going to cause any trouble, just clean them down with wire wool, keep clean and they will last for years. No issues there.

But they ruin the look of a newish bike - I would be asking Megabikes to replace them under warranty from Yamaha, or else knock down the asking price. They are a big dealer and probably could twist Danfay's arm.

I am suprised that Megabikes are offering it in this state.

Don't know why all don't use stainless pipes. Especially ones buried under fairings. If its not to bad. A rub down and a lick of exhaust paint. If he won't replace them as above.

Bit of harpic then a polish will have the headers spotless. Just apply some acf50 after

No no it's the current owner bought it brand new from megabikes. I'd be a lot more worried if it was the dealer trust me. The guy seems genuine and other than the headers the rest of the bike seems REALLY taken care of tbh. Shiny from every other aspect. It's just wierd

So definitely not a dealbreaker, just something to work on you think?
