Portable battery charger?

I unfortunately need to leave the bike parked for about half a year while I'm away. The underground parking has no plugs, so I can't ask someone to plug in the optimate charger every now and then.

Any suggestion for a portable AGM charger (so it doesn't require to be plugged in to charge the motorcycle), with a SAE connector for the bike?

Re: Portable battery charger?

Makes it easier to steal with a battery in it.

Take the battery out put it on a charger on a plug timer and lock the bike down with everything you have.

Or just buy a new battery when you get back.

Re: Portable battery charger?

The underground parking.... sure don't worry about the battery... fucking bike won't be there when you get back anyway.... wouldn't chance leaving a bike in underground car park for six months unattended ...

This. 100%.

Beg, steal, borrow (well, maybe not steal...) - get your bike out of the underground car park and into any form of secure storage. I do be amazed at how many folk tell me with pride & confidence that their bike is parked in an underground car park. As if it's a good thing.

And who's reading this thread? And then searching your post history for clues as to where you live? Naive to think those who would rob your bike wouldn't also be paid-up members of a bike forum...

Re: Portable battery charger?

Thanks for the concern guys.

I'm leaving the bike in Spain. I'm looking at other reasonable alternatives here but if not the parking I found I hope is inconvenient enough for casual thieves given its -2 level single exit and out of sight spot.

Reason for the battery charging is, besides convenience, the alarm and the tracker so I have at least a bit of peace of mind. I think a dc to dc optimate to bike sae plus one of those portable dc batteries should be easy to handle for friends.

Re: Portable battery charger?

About 3 weeks ago my local lidl still had one of those. Bulky and heavy, really hard to imagine carrying one around. I got a cheapo argos thing that barely takes up any space in my tank bag and does a decent job. When you're back just take the battery out and put it on the charger at any local bar, i found the lads in Spain very accomodating

Re: Portable battery charger?

On second thought, if you want to involve friends- why not have one take the bike for a half hour spin every two weeks?
