1970 bsa b25s engine build pics

i said id post a few pics of this so....
the little b25 had been lying up most of its life , the engine was a bit clattery when i got it , a lot of b25 "experts" thought it sounded ok but i had a feeling there was too much noise. it sounded a bit too much like big end wear.
i had about 60 miles up on it after servicing ,cleaning carb and points etc getting it running and it started a right racket while it was flying along .
first off a few pics of stripping it down .

Re: 1970 bsa b25s engine build pics

ill add more infp after getting the pics up . more pics of stripping the engine .pic with micro bearing puller is just to show this can be done if the bsa tool is not readily got. as can be seen it was fairly mank inside and the big end was toast .

Re: 1970 bsa b25s engine build pics

more pics of stripping .note hairline crack in oil pump , the pump was harder to turn than it should have been .the seal for the end fed crank was not great either, this may have contributed to the demise of the big end but it might have had the crap rode out of it in the states before it came here. hard to know for sure.

new gaskets all round , barrel honed, new rings , piston cleaned up and hotspot areas in the design rounded out. rebuilt second hand oil pump , valves ground , port cleaned up a bit .timed up , new points , new oil pressure switch etc etc . ill get a vid of it running in a while . ive been taking it handy while running it in but its a bit of fun riding it around , think ive about 300 miles or so on it since .its a bit rough looking on the outside but the motors as good as if not better than new. oilway on crank was opened a bit and the detent in crank for oil to sit dremmeled as per rupert ratios book on the subject .

very similar engines and a lot of the b25 parts can be used to upgrade the c15t. yours is like the earlier version of the design .

Re: 1970 bsa b25s engine build pics

Nice to see another survivor and more so you enjoying it, great crack off these little engines, a lot of negative stuff written about c15s and their variations but for their time they were near enough to any other bike that you paid the same money for. back in the day I remember stripping my c15ss to fit a new set of rings and if I kissed it couldn't get it to fire after reassembly, after a lot of head scratching I discovered I had fitted the pushrods upright instead of criss cross, btw any remedy for releasing clutch plates that are stuck together after a long lay up, have tried serious bumping.

I usually bump start and drive around with the clutch pulled. That normally frees them up.In extreme cases you'll have to pull it apart and separate them by hand.

@Chop,does that engine have the eccentric valve adjusters?Weird set up if you don't know about it

I had an old Triumph 250 with a bsa engine that had that set up.
It was some kind of C15 unit.

One I brought back to life 2 years ago. I loved the slow speed handling. It could make a U-Turn using only one side of the road.
