Web addresses

I know a good few of you are very tech savvy and I am hoping one of you can help me out.

I need to get to a website.

Usually thats just a case of typing in WWW.XXXX.YY

WWW does not work but I know for certain that the XXXX.YY I am typing in is correct.

I know this is all to do with DNS and a web site address can be xxx.yyyy.zz in any format as long as the IP to the web server is correct.

So how do I go about finding out what the WWW should be replaced by?

Re: Web addresses

have tried that. No joy

I understand a little bit about DNS usually two entries are made
www.biker.ie and then an IP address
biker.ie and then the same IP address

Without actually getting access to the DNS server is there a way to look up all the IP addresses or server names for a domain?

Re: Web addresses

Is it a new website? Sometimes it can take a few days for the DNS to propagate.
Something like this might find the IP address for you.
https://www.site24x7.com/find-ip-add...-web-site.html

What's the domain name?

Yes, with dig. I can check it out for you if you cant find a web interface for it.

Re: Web addresses

thanks for that. Gives my pretty much the same results as I get from
https://centralops.net/co/

What I am trying to do is identify a web address. I'm pretty certain they have not used the traditional WWW but using something else instead.

I havent got a clue what replaces the WWW, but was hoping NSLOOKUP, the link I gave or your DIG would give me a list of all servers on a domain.
I dont know if its even possible to do that

You can try at https://dnschecker.org/all-dns-records-of-domain.php

but the problem is that oftentimes you end up with stuff like *.biker.ie, so that DNS will resolve any domain and send it to the server, and it's the server which decides what to do depending on the subdomain. But you won't be able to query for that.

If they have https enabled and, I guess, a reasonably modern certificate you can try https://transparencyreport.google.co...ificates?hl=en (with subdomain search enabled)

To be honest I dont know.

I thought I had the domain name right, but that didnt work out.

Its an online treasure hunt, so all I have is clues as to what the domain might be.

Contacted an old friend and he was able to give me a list of all domains registered in a number of counties. The domain name I thought it was did not exist. Dont ask how he did it, I dont know and wont ask for obvious reasons.

I now suspect there is no registered domain at all. The server will be accessed by IP address only.
