Correct. If you arrive into Ireland from abroad and plan on staying less than a year, you do not need to register your vehicle in Ireland. Same applies even if you are working here, so long as it is "temporary". If you stay longer than a year, then yes you do need to register your vehicle with Irish plates.
Of course, you still have to check that your insurance from your foreign company is valid. Typically they require that you are still a permanent resident of that country. Could be tricky if you're in a crash in Ireland after having been here for 7 or 8 months. |

(We also have to proof that we owned this vehicle for at least 6 months!)... ...But it doesn't say anything about being able to drive it for those 12 months! You still have to register the vehicle within 24h since its arrival. I don't understand all those foerign cars either... ... unless they pretend to be on holidays. PS: By the way, checking whether my spanish insurance would cover my vehicle abroad was the first thing I did. |

Just went today to a Vehicle registration office and asked them how long can I be here for without changing plates.
They told me that we got 3 months if we're on holidays... but they also said that they can't really check how long you have been here as when you drive into the country, there's no proof of inmigration or anything... ![]() ...so no wonder why those eastern european countries cars are still driving... THEY ARE ON HOLIDAYS!! ![]() ![]() ... You, lucky bastards! ![]() ![]() ![]() Well, from my side, I'm gonna do it the right way (just in case ![]() ![]() |
