Engine wanted 2008 zx6r

Hey guys,

Well she went with a bang this morning, broke the conrod and sent it through the front and rear of the engine. managed to keep her upright though .... back wheel was all over the place with the oil and coolant all over it!

I know its a long shot but.....would anyone of you know of a replacement engine for sale? I have done the usual searches with no luck .....apparently they are like hen's teeth, only weaker

Must be the 08 model for a straight fit.

Thanks.

Completely out of the blue .... come to think of it, it was spluttering a bit when I got caught in a downpour of biblical proportions on Monday, but that seemed more electrical. Other than that she was running great. Started up no bother this morning and ran fine until it suddenly let go ; (

Ouch

Fair dues for keeping it upright... little consolation but it could've been worse I suppose. Good luck with the search

What happened the frame? This might be the best route out for me, plus it will give me some spares for when the inevitable happens again. Will give you a buzz this evening if that suits.

Some insurance dope wrote it off when new , there isnt as much as a scratch on the frame, anyway its cat b. 6600 miles on the engine has a good few extras too good tyres , piper filter , raised rearsets. So on. Im sick of looking at it /not using it , so off it goes.

Seems to be a common issue on a lot of the kwaks. The leaking valve cover . I've see very low mileage bikes with it .zxrs,zzr14s etc .bad design.i don't think it's bad enough to cause a valve to drop though. My money would be on fuelling, or modification gone wrong (ie manual cct too tight which does exactly that to an engine , the blade debris clogs the strainer and starves oil ) . Either way I'd try figure it out before the next engine goes in

For sure...yeah you’d be a long time waiting on the valve cover to lose that much oil,but you know yourself, you see bikes in fierce states with zero shits given

Have not took it out yet chop, but whatever it was it gave no warning that I noticed. The engine had 110k km on it. Never had any bother, always started no matter the weather. The only thing was a bit of spluttering in the rain two days prior to it going pop.

I do a lot of miles and kept up with the servicing, oil changed very regularly.

Be interesting to see what caused it alright.

Assuming you have a birds eye view of the big end now, show us a pic of the crank around that rod.

I always find these levels of destruction impressive, but like Chop says, the most important part of these jobs is finding the root cause

Re: Engine wanted 2008 zx6r

Replacement engine arrived today but I ran into a snag when trying to get the old one out.
The lower rear engine mount bolt wont budge no matter what I do!! tried soaking in penetrating oil, applied some heat even went as far as breaking out the big tap tappy.
Am I missing something here? As far as I can make out it is not threaded into anything bar the nut on the far side and should slide out once the nut is removed(note the "should").
Can anyone confirm this ^?

Re: Engine wanted 2008 zx6r

Had an xr 250 that had the same problem... apperantly the xr was known for it... the bolt did come out. But it took alot of heat, oil, beating, twisting and swearing...
Did come out in the end....but think I ended up replacing the bolt and nut and using copper grease when putting it back....
Good luck

The bike needs to be propped to get the best chance of shocking it out. There’s no use trying to do that unless the bike is pinned down, ideally on its side....or you’ll be loosing most of the force that you put behind the hammer

Had her stripped right down, swing arm, shocks the lot off. place on her side too .... even an impact driver wouldnt budge the fugger.

Ended up drilling a number of holes in the engine mount and tapping a lump off the lug the bolt goes through with the hope of removing the bolt from the frame with the engine removed.

Well lucky me (relative luck...be luckier if none of this happened) the bolt came out of the frame after the engine was out handy enough.

Managed to get the new one in tonight, hopefully get it all back tomorrow and stick up some pics of the damage then.

Cheers for all the input lads .... it was much appreciated!!

Oh believe me there has been a good few choice words muttered over the past few days. No point going off the rails though, I need to get back on the road asap.
