So long as a summons is applied for within six months of the offense they have all the time in the world to serve it, this time is only limited by the risk of a defendant sucessfully claiming that the delay damaged his right to a fair trial. The longest delay I've heard of in a RTA case is two and a half years. I had a case conclude recently, it was heard after two years. My summons was legally served at about the seventh month.

Should go without sayin but for admin cartman's benefit, I was the defendant not the brief.
