Budget bike battle: '06 R1 Vs K6

Should be interesting. They've done a few of these now, I find most of them pretty good. Yes, the 'banter' between them can be annoying but in fairness I find myself watching with keen interest each time to see how the bikes behaved. Enjoy....

Re: Budget bike battle: '06 R1 Vs K6

Alastair Fagan is a ex-racer and tester for fast bikes magazine, ie. a lot quicker than most so I'd heed his advice in the same way as a Michael Rutter article on tyres & new bike reviews etc., Baron is a nice lad but a bit meeh, metrosexual zara fashion type influencer and somewhat of a bitch who probably knows more about mascara than motorbikes.

He can be funny by times and I suppose from a lay person looking in, sounds knowledgeable with these huge superlatives and punchy trending tag lines you'd hear in every hipster chithole in London but that's not his fault, he's a product of the system and pre programmed to clickbait similar markerching types nobs who want to kiss him and virtually like him and have their first homoerotic experience in the company of such faddish fandanglement.

I heard at Cadwell Park (from someone who knows someone, who knows keyser soze) that he bleaches his anus.

Yeah I remember 'Faggers' from back in the day. They did a really good piece following his exploits as a privateer in BSB if I remember correctly. Found it interesting but a bit anticlimactic when he crashed out early and ended his season before it really began. Baron is quite handy on the bike from what I've seen on the bike launch vids, built up quite a following from the green laning a GSXR times....

In one of his videos he complains that he's struggling with money. If you watch his other videos you will see that he owns a relatively new Porsche 911, hp4, new r1 etc. Basically a rich twat, still interesting to watch though. Just get an eye roll when he says that he's struggling with money.

Ah here, the lads on their own are grand but they have absolutely no on screen chemistry together. They’d suck the life out of a lemon! Feels like they have sunk ‘finance’ into the project and are only doing it for the shekels.

As for finance! Very easy to get finance, not so easy if you hit a bad patch! Most things in UK and Ireland now PCPd up the wazoo. Want to know how well the lad in the new Q7 is doing, have a look at his tyres!!

I thought begrudgery was a peculiar Irish thing, hope you're not assimilating

Most people ride 10yr old shitters and moan about not having money, yet think nothing of dropping THOUSANDS on a fresh car or new kitchen to keep up with the jones, then you have farmers driving the equivalent in price to a supercar around the roads and still moaning about shit, its all about priorities.

There's obviously money in graphic design if you're good at it, but think of all the cock suckers you'd have to appease to sell a design and get paid, no such thing as a free lunch

Finding a fair few 'issues', makes you wonder what lies beneath when buying a bike. Find these parts every bit as interesting as when they actually go out on the road with the bikes.

Where did all those horses go? No sign of them coming back either. Funny thing is that it's not like the bike was a shitter when he bought it or anything. Looked tidy. Leaking fork seal that you would presume to be a cheap fix ends up needing new forks. And the GSXR that Fagan test rode and reckoned was sweet as a nut has a fried ECU? Dying to see how they perform on the trip with
reliability, performance and day to day on a big trip.

The cynical side of me says they know exactly what they're buying, all these issues make for interesting watching from us lot and spark up the banter.

It would be boring enough if the 2 bikes were near perfect with no issues if you think about it.My 2c

I do like the show though, it's a good laugh.

Yeah, I think that's pretty much the conclusion they've come to themselves. But, where's the fun in that?

Besides, I like the fact that they find bits 'wrong', I'm watching it thinking to myself "Fuck, I'd never have spotted that when viewing a bike"

Re: Budget bike battle: '06 R1 Vs K6

Wonder would newer ECU's and fault codes on more modern bikes have helped to pinpoint the errors and eliminate the need for throwing money at everything, while still not being able to figure out the source of problems and misfires etc.

£1,500 each and they're not really taking into account the labour costs of stripping down an engine for cams / clearances / looms etc. which would probably run mere mortals at least another grand.

While there's lots of bargains to be had, ye might be better off restricting yourself to max. 10yr old bike as no matter how clean they look, could well be nogis hapes of shyte underneath all that wax and polish.

I think places like Almeria and Cartegena should also restrict ( or ban completely from certain groups ) any bikes older than 10yrs too, as it was inevitably one of those perished sh!tters way past its sell by date that spewed oil causing a load of other riders to crash there.

Barron went and dropped thousands on a pair of blingy carbon fibre wheels for that Ducati ( another hape-a ) and didn't even buy a master cylinder or flush the brake fluid, same with not changing pads on the R1 (after leaky fork seals?) - I think it's more important to be able to stop first and foremost, rather than writing cheques for Ohlins etc., but yes if it teaches regular bikers the pitfalls and what to watch out for on these 180mph machines - then it's all good in the end.

148bhp at the wheel from the R1 is pretty healthy.
Hope they get GSXR sorted and up near the R1. As
they said themselves, a good clean K4 would have been
the better route to take.
