Default Oulton BSB 'Aussie rules' as Bad Boy Brookes Beats Bridewell

Australian Josh Brookes dominated the weekends second Bennetts British Superbike battle as he once again led the entire scrap ahead of fellow V4 rider Tommy Bridewell.

Be Wiser Ducati’s leading man bagged perfect points and crossed the line with over two seconds to spare in a carbon copy podium of race one.

While Oxford Ducati’s Bridewell started on pole, Brookes was off like a scalded cat and hit Old Hall first ahead of Jason O’Halloran, but Bridewell soon snatched second back as Tyco BMW’s Iddon and FS-3 Kawasaki man Danny Buchan slotted into fourth and fifth.

Meanwhile, back in 15th, Glenn Irwin and Dean Harrison went grass-tracking at Knickerbrook while Smith’s Racing man Peter Hickman, who had started from pit lane thanks to a tyre pressure infringement, moved up into the top 20.

Ahead of them in the battle for seventh, McAMS Yamaha’s Tarran Mackenzie stuck a pass on rookie Ryan Vickers while further up the order, O’Halloran dropped out of third as Iddon and Buchan both passed him at the end of lap four just before Redding made a move on O’Halloran at Old Hall to take fifth.

At the front, it was nip and tuck between Brookes and Bridewell as the Devizes rider kept his deficit nearly identical to race one while Buchan squeezed up the inside of Iddon at Druids, some three seconds off the lead, to take over third.

Further afield, JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s Irwin added to his nightmare weekend by running off, rejoining at the back of the field while James Ellison once again retired to the pits.

Ex-GP man Redding continued to make progress as he stuck his PBM Ducati up the inside of Iddon heading into the Knickerbrook chicane to move up to fourth, but was still at least two seconds off rostrum contention with Buchan up the road in a lone third.

But at the front it was more domination for Brookes with a flawless double victory in a repeat podium ahead of Bridewell and Buchan.

Brookes’ team-mate Redding fended off a late charge from Mackenzie to bag fourth while Iddon slipped down to a lone sixth after early rostrum promise.

Reigning Superstock champ Keith Farmer just missed out on seventh, a mere 0.029s behind O’Halloran, while Honda Racing’s Andrew Irwin and RAF Regular and Reserves’ Vickers rounded out the top 10.

Roads star Hickman, who had started at the back of the grid, fought his way through the pack to 11th.

Mackenzie maintains his championship lead but is now joined by Bridewell in joint control as they both sit on 64 points heading to Donington Park.
