RD250, CR250 'crosser and then a road legal IT425 here. Loved them - particularly the pure unadulterated violence of the race engines.

Used to put a wee drop of Castor oil in the tank of the RD for that genuine fake Castrol R reek - and then ride up and down the same stretch of road to get the smell of it..daft cnut :)

Sure the auld arm is worn out waving at them and saluting the magpies.

Murray's Motorcycle Museum is located close by the bridge now . Well worth a visit. Some lovely two stroke race bikes in there.

It's sad that the tech for everyday market never got to fuel injected 2 strokes. While they exist (you can even get a KTM off road EFI 300), never had the chance to go mainstream.

That sounds pretty dicey :)
I haven't had a lot of experience but one thing that stood out was the way you could tip into corners on track with no engine braking .... that and keeping the clutch covered!!

It really gets me watching 2Ts getting dyno'd and the operator letting them coast after the power run..... you scar up the bore something terrible or risk a seizure as you aren't sucking in any real fuel and therefore no premix.

But fuckit, ring a ding....or in this case in a slightly deeper voice!

F**D were working on a 1lt. 3cyl 2stroke cage engine in the early 90s but they abandoned it cos of the green arseholes.
It was designed by Orbital in Australia and was more powerful, cleaner and more efficent than the 1.4 yoke they had.

And Bimota had the opportunity to get it right.... But as with many things Italian, ambition and pride was the straw that broke the back of the company. They should have let the Japanese do the ECU and injectors and not rushed the bike to market. 25K for the one in windowworld if you want it and its still FI afaik so it doesn't work properly. The good ones were converted to carbs and now fetch up to 40K.

Remember the Old 250 class at the NW200, sounded like a swarm of bees coming down to Mathers, and the smell would linger till the next 4 stroke race.
