Hi lads I like BMW's ok not every ones choice but anyway for the BMW riders out there, What do you think of this. https://www.donedeal.ie/motorbikes-f...150gs/15867481 Im thinking 69,500 miles is not bad for a 15 year old bike Ive had a few BMW's so know they just keep going with the gear seems priced well anyone any opinion ???

Looks clean. Ask what type of brakes are in it. If they are servo (ie they go whizz whirr when you pull the brake lever with ignition on) WALK away.
See what service history it has. Personally I'd be offering a lot less and let him bargain up. Is the origional rear shock still on it? It'll be tired and will need to be refreshed. You can get them refurbished but my experience was not great with the the i got done. What is the battery like? If it's old, budget for a new one because they are a bastard to push start and need a good battery to turn over due to being such a big twin. Don't know what else to say but if it is servo assisted braking, just walk away. It's not worth the hassle. Oh and tell him to feck off with the gear. Get a price for the bike on it's own. .. unless you want someone else smelly old boots... Last edited by Frankkilty; 17th July 2017 at 09:28 AM. |

If the calipers are that mouldy, what other parts are hidden and festering? |

Brembo calipers are non servo. Brake fluids must be done annually if it's abs. These engines run well on 20/50 mineral oil. 4litres [email protected]€25 from Lee's online.
I carry a spare final drive bearing&seal (apprx £60). Easily replaceable by the road side. Wealth of information on ukgs. I do a lot of servicing myself, but once every 3-4years I get it sent to a very good independent for a thorough once over. Fasteners and bolts do tend to go furry/corode if bike is used all year round. I got a full set of quality stainless to replace everything. £50plus through a group buy via ukgs Last edited by bsd; 17th July 2017 at 11:19 AM. |

Servo assist - you apply 'feather touch' braking when manouvering bike at slow speed, servo makes some fucking r2d2 noises and thinks 'FULL BRAKE APPLICATION!!' - load of me bollox!

Hey man, I don't know. I've had four oil head boxers. None had gold calipers. I'm sure they are fine but I'd ask why they are on it. It's a guessing game buying a bike. It's a game of cat and mouse. If there is no problem, the seller will not have a problem saying why they are gold. Maybe they are replacement calipers because he had a problem with the others. One thing I do know is, normally you don't find africa twin calipers on a bmr. Your call, your cash, your time, you asked for opinions and I've given mine. Not saying yae or nae just saying I've never seen gold fucking calipers on a GS
