Default Shakey Byrne OK?

I read Shakey had a bad crash during testing a few days ago and he was taken to hospital but all has been quiet since then. Radio silence usually isn't good. Just wondering if anyone heard if he was alright?

They obviously don't wear the airbag suits in BSB.
Nasty pile of injuries there. At least the op went well.

Byrne family statement:
“Following the incident at Snetterton last week, Shane underwent surgery on Monday (21/05/18) to stabilise his spinal fractures. We are happy to say the surgeons are pleased with how the procedure went.
“Shane is alert and in good spirits, but there is still a long road ahead in the recovery process. He will remain under close observation in the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital Critical Care Complex over the next few days before undergoing further treatment.
“We are touched by the many messages of support we have received from fans over the last few days, but after several instances of well-wishers attempting to see Shane in hospital, we would request that our wish for privacy is respected at this difficult time.”

I'd say he'll call it a day and to be honest I wouldn't blame him. He's dipped into the 'luck bag' a fair few times as Wayne Gardner said and came out the other side.

Does anyone remember the fast bikes videos where they went to France and rode like dicks?

sounds like he will recover, which is good news...

re him retiring, i know these debates come up a lot when riders have big off's, but imo this would be the noble thing to do. The guy is a legend already, and doesnt need to prove anything. He isnt old, but this would be a big enough crash to turn most off......literally a fine line.

I've seen bigger crashes ( multiple vertebrae & ribs, legs, arms, wrists, knees ) that didn't turn anybody off anything, accidents happen and it's not that he would have anything 'to prove' to anyone, who goes out and does that ? it's that he likes motorbikes and racing, rather than trying to impress people ~ I'd say he'll be back before long it's only a minor setback no matter what the x-rays say, 2months of sitting around listening to wimen and driving that M5 he'll be (if he's able) tearing around on 2 wheels again.

You mean this one?

Would you believe I only remembered it because they were running the TLR and Shakey had some colourful words to say about its manners turning into a corner.

i agree.

& been there myself and jumped back up on the horse....i know all too well.

I know plenty have been in the wars before and resumed play, but something niggling me about this crash for some reason. Id love to see him back in the game.

you'd wonder, nobody is infallible, but a big off for shakey, he's fairly well composed a lot of the time, not heard / read what actually happened yet.
