Default self build bikes registration questions

I have a plan to build replica of a 1910's-20's motorcycle - board track racer.
Its basically a slightly modified bicycle with added engine.
According to rules it cannot be considered as a assisted bicycle.
(it will have 147ccm briggs & stratton engine - anyway too big to justice assist cycling...)

But what are the chances to register it as a motorcycle? Is there anything like self build motorcycles category I can register it under?

You will need to get on to the nsai, they deal with individual vehicle approvals.
The details are on their website. There are some amount of hoops to jump through though.

Get on to one of the custom builder outfits, they have a way of getting frame numbers etc. so might cost a bit but also a lot less hassle

Looked into before bloody nightmare. Went through section after section of getting passed around. Best thing get a tax book for any pile of crap and put down your engine number the first time you register it then a new frame number a couple of months later, or just stamp your new frame with the existing number. You'll be building it for a while so get that sorted first. I used a nsr 80 log book. Declare it to the insurance company what it is. You might have to get an engineers report for them. I had to do for the trike.

You'd have a nightmare registering a self build as the engine would need to conform to modern emissions regulations and need the paper work to prove it does. If it was me I'd get something like a New Hudson autocycle with a log book, 2-500 in the UK. Import it, get your logbook and then modify the frame to whatever you need while retaining the head stock for the frame number
