» Vrt and registering a German frame
Feb 20, 2018 - 10:22 AM - by sharpbikes
Have bought a German frame for my bike to replace the banjaxed one, have both the German logbooks and a letter stating ownership from the old owner, would this suffice for registering the bike, will be transplanting my engine in so I assume they will take all the frame and engine details at the vrt centre, thanks in advance

» Front Brakes on vstrom
Feb 19, 2018 - 7:39 PM - by mct25
The front wheel on my vstrom is extremely hard to turn the brakes are catching it. so i changed the pads. made no difference. I cleaned and the calipers had them off a couple of times now, still hard to turn the wheel. I don't know what to do. Should I change the caliper or how stiff should the wheel be.

» Kitting out a box trailer
Feb 19, 2018 - 1:35 PM - by Jeff7t7
Hi all,
I recently got a box trailer and am looking to set it up for the trackbike and bikes in general, anyone got any tips on what to have in it?
7ft7 long, 4foot 8 wide, 6 foot high.
Room for two bikes side by side.
I'll be installing one wheel chock permanently on one side but the other space is free.
As regards bolting tie downs and stuff on is the wooden floor strong enough or do you lads run some sort of frame or bracing underneath? The ones in it are just through the wood..

Something for hanging gear, tools, spare wheels, and a tiny bench are in my mind..not sure whats actually necessary though.
Any ideas or must have's appreciated!

Feb 18, 2018 - 9:58 PM - by flyingdutchman
A guy local to me started a classic cage business and I know every now and then he gets a bike in. He currently has a 1978 Kawasaki ZXR 650 in his line up which he tried to sell to me. I like those old bikes but simply haven't the time or knowledge to keep them on the road.

Not sure if this is the right place for this post but if anybody was looking for something similar let me know and I'll point you in the right direction. He is looking for 2 and a half grand and I have no idea if that's reasonable or not. As I know him fairly I'd say he'd be open to sensible offers for members of

Feb 18, 2018 - 8:57 PM - by keanser
Hi folks,

Has been a long time since I was on here, Having started a family and gone the last several years without a bike finally looking to get back in the saddle.

Looking at purchasing a bike for commuting and a general all rounder that I can also have some fun spins on, going to ditch the car, absolute pain in my face sitting in the traffic, cant do it anymore.

I am thinking the 2017 model Yamaha MT 09 but I am really open to suggestions. had a good look online and it seems to get great reviews, have looked at the z900, gsx and the Honda CB but the yamaha seems to stand out.

I will be doing 60k round trip daily on motorway mostly but don't mind not having front fairings.

Thinking of buying new as there just... [Read More]

» Latest spec R1 Race bike
Feb 18, 2018 - 6:31 PM - by Cnut the Great
Almost ready for the stillage for Spain.....
This week will be the last few jobs and make sure everything is as it should be.
Bought this 2015 Seton built R1 at the end of last year from a guy I know in the uk. Bike was used for club sport racing in 15/16 very little last year.

Usual Seton spec, autoblipper etc, it's got the latest Generation 6 mapping just done and Seton aftermarket bellmouth kit. I did all the normal things, serviced it and painted the fairings. It's just back from Graphics work by Moose design in Mallow. I think it's pretty awesome so here's a few pics

» Dunlop Qualifier D209: opinions?
Feb 17, 2018 - 7:03 PM - by fast3r
Hi guys, I'm going to pick up my new bike (CBR 600 RR '09) next month from the dealer, who is fitting it with new Dunlop Qualifier (D209) tyres.

Has anyone used the above extensively and can give me an opinion?
I always rode bikes in a country where the weather is much better (Italy), so our choice of tyres for a SS bike are very different. Haven't really ever used anything more "touring" than Metzeler M3, which were great for travelling but kind of suffered on grip when going a little bit more sporty (especially in summer with 30į).

Given the weather in Ireland, obviously, wouldn't really consider a Diablo Rosso Corsa or similar my first choice. I'd like to know that the D209 are decent in the rain or wet roads.

Thanks in... [Read More]

» Pannier Inner bags - On a budget
Feb 16, 2018 - 9:40 AM - by rebelBusa
Just an FYI really I suppose.

I've been looking for inner bags for my 42L Givi panniers lately. The Givi inner bags are all up around Ä50+ each, and I'm on a budget. I wanted something waterproof and didn't want to be lugging the hard cases around on the ferry.

So I spotted these 50L Q-bag waterproof roll-bags on Sportbikeshop.co.uk for only 10. Delivered this morning and they're perfect, Ä32 with delivery for 2 of them. They don't have a shoulder strap but I have 2 straps from old gear bags at home that will work perfect.
Anyway, just a suggestion if you're touring on a budget like me and don't want to fork out the big bucks for the flashy brandname stuff.

» Shared bike storage Malahide Portmarnock Baldoyle
Feb 14, 2018 - 9:03 AM - by DAK
Iíve no garage at the house and no way bike will fit down the side so Iíve been looking for somewhere keep it secure.

Ideally Malahide Portmarnock Baldoyle Kinsealy area so itís not too far away. Iíve priced one place, secure with 24 hr access etc. Itís pricey at Ä180 per month but would definitely hold 2 maybe 3 bikes depending on what they are. Mine is DL650 for ref.

If anyone is interested in sharing costs PM me as I need to do something soon. At the moment I have it stored in work but thatís miles away and there has been a van spotted checking out bike locks in Malahide area so don't fancy leaving it out front all the time.

Alternatively if someone has something to offer as option PM also.

Feb 13, 2018 - 9:48 PM - by goose81
My key stopped working well a while ago, took a good bit of fiddling to get the bike steering lock off and then some jiggling to start. I got some blank keys cut about 3 months ago and they worked perfectly but now I'm getting the same thing.

Is there anything I can do bar buying new lock barrels? It's like the pins in the barrels have worn and that's why it's taking so much effort.

Hoping there is a cheaper option than new barrels

I swapped to wd40 chain wax on my bike. How often should I apply this? I've a daily 20km total commute Monday to Friday. Is once a month enough or should I be putting a bit on every weekend. Also it seems to take a couple of rides to work into the chain. In the interim its like a heavy coating. Am I putting too much on?
