» Laverty on the dole for 2019 ?
Oct 22, 2018 - 11:10 PM - by Admin
Although yet to be officially announced by Shaun Muir, Tom Sykes is believed to have signed up to join his team alongside Markus Reiterberger on works BMWs for the 2019 WorldSBK series.

Click the image to open in full size.

The news leaves Eugene Laverty - whom many believed was sure to keep his seat - out looking for work at a very late stage in the seat-grabbing process and only the second Red Bull Honda is available. Well, it’s the only available one worth having.

» MotoGP Motegi: Marc Marquez wins 2018 World Championship
Oct 21, 2018 - 6:51 AM - by Admin
Marc Marquez has won his fifth MotoGP World Championship after winning the Japanese MotoGP in Motegi.

Click the image to open in full size.

Starting from the second row of the grid, the Spaniard wasted little time in getting into the top two and battling with pole sitter Andrea Dovizioso. With four laps to go, Marquez moved under Dovizioso for the lead. On the penultimate lap, whilst following Marquez, Dovizioso lost the front end of his Ducati, leaving Marquez on his own for the victory.

» MotoGP: MotoGP Motegi: We won’t be thinking of the Championship – Dovizioso
Oct 20, 2018 - 10:00 AM - by Admin
Andrea Dovizioso has said that he won’t be thinking about the MotoGP World Championship and will be instead focused on trying to win the Japanese Grand Prix after qualifying in pole position around the Twin Ring Motegi.

Tomorrow sees Marquez’ first match point to win his fifth MotoGP World Championship at Honda’s home circuit in Japan. Despite mathematically being Marquez’ biggest title challenger, Dovizioso insists he isn’t thinking about that, and just focused on trying to finish ahead of the Spaniard in tomorrows race.

“Marc will try, but it’s normal,” said Dovizioso who has battled with Marquez until the final lap in all of the last three races.

“He has a margin and is able to take a risk like... [Read More]

Evening lads,

How accurate are online quote websites like Liberty, for example? I've been using it to shop around for a bike and tbh there isn't much of a difference in price no matter what bike I enter.

I've tried GN125s, Hornet 250s, Honda Bros 400s and Ninja 250s. There is obviously a big difference in just about everything between a GN125 and a Honda Bros.

I have a provisional A2 licence and am 22 years old.

Will I get a nasty shock with an insurance quote when I buy a bike or will it be something I'm expecting based on the prices that I've seen online?

» Fender extender or splash guard?
Oct 19, 2018 - 10:54 AM - by RTV

As much as I love the clean look of my MT09, when it gets wet my back ends up being a complete mess with spray.

There's apparently two options with either a fender extender or the splash guard, any experience with either or?

I imagine that the splash guard might be more effective but it looks pretty feckin' bad to me.

I'll love to hear your experience, thoughts.

Keep your eyes peeled on the M7 on the straight after the toll on the Dublin side. Spotted a deer grazing right on the verge out of the corner of my eye on the hard shoulder on Tuesday night as I belted along. There is no barrier along those sections so if something startled it could have been venison and Motul sauce for a late supper.

Oct 17, 2018 - 7:01 PM - by efanton
Watch your speed on the N20 Cork side of Mallow. There's a young garda who's playing with his new toy gun.

clocked me at 134kph and gave me a ticket

claims to be a biker himself but thats probably bullshit, late 20's and seems to think bikers can easily read the inside kph markings on the speedo while riding the bike and that was excessive speed.
Glad he didnt catch me at my normal time when traffic is a lot lighter

Been riding that route for a few years now and have often been waved on by the marked squad cars. Doubt he's local, or if he is... [Read More]

» Test ride ?- Sorry mate..
Oct 17, 2018 - 6:58 PM - by -alan-
From a dealer this is.

On the hunt for a decent sports bike. Saw a s/h one I was interested in advertised by a (main) dealer online - made the trek round to the emporium for a look at it.

Looked reasonable value - so asked if/how I could go about organising a test ride for later in the week. Was told, sorry mate we don't really know you/have no idea whether you'd be able to handle a big (litre sized) bike so we can't let you out on it.

Fair enough: I can understand where they're coming from - but is that the norm out there these days ?

» License Plate Location and indicators - Any Laws ??
Oct 17, 2018 - 5:06 PM - by hondablade

I know there is a legal size for plates but what I cant seem to find out after search is what is the stance on plate location or is there any law of guidelines on this?

Other question is the indicators, I know the UK has a law that the have to be a minimum spacing between each other, more so to pas MOT which we dont have, so with an integrated tail and smaller LED indicators as a second set whats the stance on these, say like the motogadget M-Blaze pins:

» Marquez to take 2018 MotoGP title at Motegi
Oct 17, 2018 - 9:09 AM - by Admin
Reigning MotoGP Champion Marc Marquez arrives at the Motegi round this weekend with his first chance to wrap up the 2018 title for Honda.

The Spaniard’s championship lead is now 77 points over nearest rival Andrea Dovizioso and 99 over Valentino Rossi, and at the end of the Japanese GP weekend, he needs only 75 to lift another big trophy.

With a maximum of 100 points available across the season’s remaining four races, Marquez needs to finish ahead of Ducati’s Dovizioso or doesn’t lose more than two points to him, and if Rossi doesn’t win the race while Marc finishes out of the points).

Marquez has already won two of his four MotoGP World titles at Motegi, in 2014 and in 2016 - when he also took his first MotoGP win at... [Read More]

» Electrical Gremlin
Oct 16, 2018 - 1:32 PM - by Rh4000
Have a 2002 Gsx1400, when I got it all the indicators and indicator relay & a taillight bulb were blown, no big deal, changed both tail light bulbs to new ones, got new indicators and an indicator relay, the front wiring to the headlight and indicators was all chopped and changed and just messy, housemate who's an electrical engineer tidied it all up, soldered it up and had it spot on.

Everything was grand, came out to the bike Friday and the dipped beam on the headlight was blown and one of the rear tail light bulbs was blown too.

What do ye think is causing this, any suggestions or ideas, bad earth somewhere I'm assuming?🤔

» how many mins before ya step on it
Oct 15, 2018 - 9:04 AM - by GONKO
So how many minutes is enough before high RPM riding. Last night my bike was idling for maybe 2-3 mins and then a 7 min ride or so before pulling on the dual carriageway and a friend of mine in a Corolla T Sport fancied his chances as its 'not even a litre' . So I wound the bike up to 11-12k rpm (redline is 15.5k) through one gear and then backed off. Would I have done any engine damage?
Normally I like to wait 10-15 mins of riding before stepping on the engine...
She just had an oil change yesterday too, fully synthetic oil.

» Temperature readings - 2005 ZX6R
Oct 15, 2018 - 8:54 AM - by GONKO
So a few weeks ago I picked up the ZX6R as some may recall.
Anyway, the temp gauge reads anywhere from 140-165F (60-74c) when on the move.
When I stop, the bike starts to climb in temperature quite quickly. I've not see it go beyond 212F (100c), this was when I was just idling the thing into the back garden.

Is this normal for this bike. It seems that when on the move its cooling off quickly, but once its stopped it gets hot quicker than I would have expected?

Hey guys,

I'm in the middle of searching for my first bike and I viewed a great looking bike recently. A price was agreed and cash was transferred but upon a closer inspection, the engine number did not match the number in the logbook. The frame number was correct but not the engine.

I was devastated by this and proceeded not to go through with the sale, on the advice of a friend who was with me when viewing the bike. The owner was not upfront with this information.

Oct 12, 2018 - 7:42 PM - by acdc
busa clocks and turn lights not working, no tail light , the rear brake light went last week?? I checked all the connections for continuity and voltage and it was all ok so I suspect it could be just the dual led strip rear tail/brake light,

I was driving up home and pulled in somewhere and when I got back on her and turned the ignition but no clocks and as above.

she has gixxer digital cluster and a Koso temp and fuel gauge, the turn lights are led with built-in load resistance, a bit 2 much I think as they stay on for only 10 seconds? I have a heap of new relays if that would make any difference.

the bike is driving and the hi/lo beams are working and the hi beam blue light, I think the fuses are grand, ob its a first port of... [Read More]
