It's ugly as fuck and likely to fall to pieces up the road.
But it's a BMW, so what's not to like!

Its a cage dealer selling a bike so go in with eyes open.
Looks clean though, low miles.
Make sure you get to talk to the owner and that there is service history.

Make sure all the updates/mods are done on it - ring Kearys or Duffy with the VIN.

Early model cam chain tensioners can fail, chain comes off and the engine is a bin job after that. BMW issued a mod for this.

Yup it sure is ugly !!
And I'd be concerned that if it did give trouble it would/could be expensive.

Would something like this for the same kinda money be a better bike ?

The are a bit of an ugly bstd alright. The one thing that would appeal to me on it is the front end/suspension setup. Wouldn't mind owning something unusual like that for a while - see what they're really like to live with.

One up north in McCrums, reputable dealer too. I rode one yrs ago, fast comfy bike, but back brake was non existent. As said, make sure it has history / recalls etc.

a bit over your budget, but there is always a deal to be done

do, he always has clean stock and can source bikes.....

if you look on DD right now, there are ppl here selling 8+ yr old bikes that are going for 4/5k euro ! these bikes would have been sold for twice the amount at most all that time ago.

...need to fully check service history and that all mods done. Might be no harm to ask Keary's to run the reg. Few lads on here have had the K1200R...I think Bogman had an early version.

As mentioned the cam chain stretches like fuck on them. Telelever bushings take a hiding too,and they can vary from burning no oil,too very high consumption...pretty fast and reasonable comfort but they take a bit too much effort to push on
