Default Pit bike or Dirt bike

My 12 year old son wants to give biking a go so gonna get him a wee off road bike.I'm can't decide which would be better for him to learn on,a pit bike or a dirt bike?I'm thinking of either a CR85 or something like a Stomp/Demon 110.Anybody any experience of these and could share the pros and cons of both? Thanks.

Consider a CRF70?? it should be powerful enough for a 12 year old and a decent size, then there are other big wheel/small wheel 125 Honda four strokes also?? The good thing about buying a Honda is the quality is magic and the reliability is there and getting parts if you required them etc... and the resale value will be good as opposed to a stomp bike??? have fun

Dont buy cheap chinese shit.
Look at proper Jap stuff with gears.
Sure it will take him longer to get the hang of it but will be better in the long run.

A friend of mine has the Stomp and it's a great starter. He loves it! The thing sounds better than my 690 too . He's had no issues in a couple of years!

Chinese food is like McDonalds to us. Cheap quick food that is as said laced with MSG that makes us eat more...Google Chinese food syndrome as MSG is actually addictive. Any way back to the OP point. Them Chinese pit bikes are a great yoke now for what you want and the build of them has come on leaps and bounds with cheap spares easily available for them if and when needed.

The Stomps etc with the 140 engine in them are the one to go for

just in case you may or may not know = the Hondas are semi automatic, so there are 3 gears but no clutch, they are easy to ride from roughly age 7 up to about 10 for crf50 and then on from there 70cc 125 etc.... and you want a kids bike to be quiet not noisy, so as they can get the hang of things in the back garden etc...
