New bike, am I happy?.........No.

.......I'm fucking delighted!!

I picked this up from the UK (Hunts Motorcycles, Manchester) the other day. Despite my best efforts I couldn't find a second hand one in Ireland so unfortunately I had to look further afield, eventually coming across this one.

It's a 2016 Superduke 1290 R Special edition. From the factory it comes with: selectable ride modes, Brembo brakes, WP suspension, slipper clutch, wheelie control, lean sensitive ABS (with Supermoto mode), traction control and heated grips. Because it's the special edition it also gets an Akrapovic can, anodised triple clamps and top yoke, anodised brake and clutch covers, Galfer wavy disks, Power Parts seat, carbon fiber engine covers, Power Parts levers/guards (MotoGP style).

The previous owner also added an R&G tail tidy and carried out the SAS and charcoal canister removal upgrade, which is exactly what I would do myself so it's all good. The only other thing a I plan on doing is to get a decat/link pipe and possibly marry it to a pipewerx exhaust (something like this - ) I think I'll also whip off the pillion pegs and get an exhaust hanger. It definitely needs a rear seat cowl too, if I can find one.

What's it like to ride? Fuuuuuucking amazing!!
I had a GSXR1000 K6 a few years ago and I really fucking loved it, kept it for about five years, but getting the Ducati Hypermotard in 2015 was a revelation for me. I'd never rode a bike with a twin cylinder engine before and it blew me away. It honestly put a smile on my face every time I rode it. So, I decided to keep with the winning formula and get another steel trellis framed twin.

Happy as a pig in shit.

Thanks to Duke RR and goose81 for the advice regarding transport and also Kwaka Rules for tips on the 1290 R. If anyone is looking to get a bike transported from the UK, I'd highly recommend MB Transport too, top class service.

Couldn't be happier.

Got it delivered to the door. MB Transport (look them up on FB), Mark is the lad to talk to. Between ferries, bus fare and petrol (plus spending an entire day going over and back) it was actually cheaper to get it collected and brought to me. It was no hassle what so ever, collected and delivered within 24 hours.

Pure shite them yokes
I'd leave the Akra and and grab a Bodis decat with the Akra map to go with the SAS kit and filter. Massive difference in performance and sound.
Turn off the MTC too when you get used to it (get the Dongle to save the off setting) - it seriously limits the power delivery with the anti wheelie!
Other than that enjoy - I've done 10000km since buying mine this time last year and have barely used the other heap in the same time!

I did. It's the very same year and model as mine. They were asking 18.K cash, or 19.5K with 6.500 off with my Hyper as a trade in. I was tempted, it would be nice to have a brand new bike with zero miles, but at the end of the day, it would be a 2016 model on an '18 plate. Just beyond my budget.

Handling wise, the KTM is way more planted, we're talking Sportsbike type handling. The Hyper on the other hand is more skittish at high speed, which makes it savage fun. Between the two, I'd find it hard to pick one but I reckon the Superduke is the one I'd keep....
