Mondello Track Day - 12th of September

Hey guys, I'm planning on attending the (National) track day in Mondello on Wednesday the 12th of September.

Is anybody else in the forum going to be there? I'll be on my own so I wouldn't mind joining a group :)

I'd also be willing to rent a van with someone in the Cork area to get there on the evening before!

I`ll be there, give us a shout in Garage 1 (marshals) and I`ll make sure you get a bit of help. As for the van, try the mondello track days bookface page

I might pop down, just for a look as I thinking of giving it a go in the new year, not just yet though. I've a bad back so can't ride sports bikes and after 5 years off bikes just bought an aprilia dorsoduro 1200.

Hey guys, sorry missed the replies. I'm still interested in going but the weather is not looking great so far, I'll wait a couple of days more before booking (given that it's not all booked out).

Is it that bad? Consider I've never been to Mondello before.
And, sadly, it's the last chance this year to (maybe) find decent weather!

Out of curiosity, what tyres have you got on?
Never been on a track in wet conditions, didn't really want to do my first run if it rains (kind of expensive for me from Cork on my own). Don't really know how much you can push, and I'm not very used to either. We don't really have this kind of issue in Italy

I've got Dunlop RoadSmart III on my CBR600RR at the moment, they're great tyres but I wouldn't want to chance to push them too far in the wet!

National is much better, especially if you've not been before. 6 corners to learn instead of 13, and you do them twice as often. When you do the international, you'll only have 7 more to learn instead if 13 at one go.

How did you get on?

Let's say it was an intense day!
Got a van in the morning, loaded everything and got there on my own.
Managed to do two full sessions, then on the third, following one of the marshalls for a 1:1 training, it started raining and... lost the front tyre on the fourth bend, and went down! Nothing major, both me and the bike were almost unscathed. But it was the end of it, 'cause there was a major crash 10 minutes after and they just cancelled the rest of the afternoon.

All in all still a great experience though, was just starting to get to know the track better. I don't particularly like the layout as I prefer left turns (there's only two in the National track), but it was good fun. And great to meet tadhgR (PS: I have some video footage of you, I'll pass it on soon!!), sorry for not managing to see anyone else!
