New lid

Im looking to replace my Arai RX7 with something a lot more quiet and with a few more features. Arai always fit me perfect and much of the other lids I've tried on, just didn't fit right.
I'm leaning towards either the HJC RPHA70 or the Shoei GT Air 2.
I know you folks here hate Arai but honestly, I'll miss the comfort. Not the noise level though.
HJC is the right price but thankfully I got some cash for christmas to put towards whatever helmet I'd like.
I know ye all love the Shoei but anyone living with the GT Air 2 and have anything bad to say about it?

Crossans is cheapest I can find at the mo and have the color scheme I want too but anyone seen either lid at an unbeatable price elsewhere?

Any other lid I should be looking at??

Re: New lid

Bought Shoei Neotec 2 at the bike Show in Birmingham for ...wait for it...430 sterling and it was the new splicer model just out, it is a great fit and when ever I rock up to a petrol station I dont have to take it off . The pinlock attachment is also great, no more fogging up, I would recommend 100%

Yeah, im super tempted to go that route again, especially now that I missed the good sale price on the Shoei. Went up 100€ since yesterday

My only issue with the Arai's these days is the bonkers pricing. Most are 800+ euro! My RX7GP was 600 new. How the fook does a paint job jump the price to 950 in some cases.

The shoei nxr is great helmet. Got one of them in helmetcity for half price of ones here. Try see what colours they have from previous years that might be discounted

Nice one on the Helmet City tip off

I could complete the full set of Arai Nakano lids with this one that's well priced.

Fc moto is fine I've bought plenty of stuff, shipping can take a while sometimes, by a while I mean 2 weeks which isn't too bad if you are getting a good deal, sometimes it might come in a week.

Re: New lid

Currently have a HJC RPHA 70 and find it very good. In terms of how quiet it is, it's a big improvement over the IS-17. You can tip along at 100kmh and 120kmh without earplugs and not have the ears ringing when you stop. Crosswinds can cause some noise where the air is managing to get behind the visor but that generally is on very blustery days. Airflow wise it's also very good, the different vents flow plenty of air when needed. My only issues were the pinlock that came with the helmet was pure rubbish so had to spend another few euros for a proper pinlock insert. The other issue I had was the ratchet de tents were very weak and the helmet so ended up buying a new set of them which solved the problem. Overall I'm very pleased with the helmet.

Nice one, always good to hear a proper review. I was looking at the mechanism for the visor and thought it looked a little flimsy so maybe this is the case. Doesn't seem to be many other complaints though.

I cant seem to get the color scheme in the RPHA that I wanted. I checked with bikeworld and apparently, HJC do a lot of limited runs on color schemes and when there gone....

The longer I leave the purchase the more deals I seem to be missing out on so ill need to decide quick

The mechanism in my case just seems to have been a dud as the previous IS-17 I had no issues with and the replacement parts solved the problem on the RPHA 70. If you can physically look at the helmets the detents should be quite strong and really make the visor ratchet. If you find its very easy to move up and down the mechanism is probably suspect. The problem I was having was the visor would shut closed if I went over bumps which was the annoying part.

If you like Arai and they fit you, but you just want a quieter lid compared to your RX7V, why not get the Axecs or Chaser V?

Equally as noisy based on the chaser I tried. Its an Rx-7GP that I have. So the V is just the newer version. If I can get a V discounted the a similar price as a Chaser, then why go Chaser.
I should have mentioned that Im not looking to go cheap. I want a helmet with bells an whistles and that's super comfy. I'll wear it every day like.

Im ding an awful amount of procrastination on this so all the feedback is welcome.

I found this crowd on the tube thing and seems there is not all that much difference in noise levels:

Re: New lid

I sold a RPHA 11 carbon to buy my GT-Air 2........the Shoei is the usual top quality but it is heavy and the visor is a c##t to change also the detents are very stiff when raising the visor.
In hindsight, I shouldn't have got rid of the HJC, it's an absolute belter of a lid which punches well above it's weight price wise. Sizing is strange on the RPHA 11 so you will probably end up with 1 size larger than you normally take.

This is my GT-Air 2 (less than a year old, size large, might be for sale ?!?!?!)

Re: New lid

Thanks for posting that. Yeah, the features of the RPHA70 is what got me looking at them. They have since discontinued the color scheme I wanted so I've been looking for alternative in HJC. I was told they come out with a new range in March so Im considering waiting or if the GT Air2 comes up at a better price than €650 then I might consider going with that.

You little beauty! You just saved me €100. That's the decision made as it makes the Shoei now cheaper than what I was willing to pay. After the discount, €540.

This is what I'm going with:

Re: New lid

i have an rpha 11 and am very fond of it. its a bit noisier than old faithful arai lid but comes with emergency slideouts, breath guard tinted visor pinlock warranty etc, visor swap is almost intuitive to do and provision there for tear offs i think too venting is like an openface its that good. feels very light too with good vizibility.

It's better looking than the photos. The level of detail in the paintwork is another masterclass from Shoei. Also, it's a high gloss finish, which I always prefer.
