Re: Great noise

Great sounds, the Asians love their bikes !

It's mad when things evolve and how something as revered as the holy-grail Suzuki Gsxr-1100 in its heyday, is now considered a bit average in terms of speed and power, with some adventure style bikes even being quicker on stilts these days.

I suppose the shit brakes and handling of that era really concentrated the mind to place more emphasis on that engine and how unmanageable, unwieldy and dangerous the whole package must have seemed for anybody who dared venture beyond 120mph.

Different times, I remember having no traction control with a nigerian mud wrestling chick (you cant call them black any more due to Euro5 regs) backstage during the Monsters of Rock Tour in '84, things were getting messy until someone shouted "drop 'er inta 2nd and power out the other end like a slingshot or you'll bury it to the axels" and it worked.

I cant remember much after that, there was a lot of cocaine and I think Van Halen was up next.

Old Gixxers are a bit like that and the Gsxr-1100 was the essential precursor to modern tech and current motorbikes, I mean if there's no "Jump" by Van Halen, there would be no Steel Panther ;

Re: Great noise

Shit brakes, shit suspension, shit hairdo - you'll go a long way.....

The Gixxers are great but not as insane as the Honda RC174 (6 cylinder 350 GP bike !)

Gas the mechanics at the side roaring at him 'wind it on ya huor' (in Japanese)....

Have the very last in the bloodline derived GSXR carb'd engine in my K6 Bandit 12 - the last year before they went all poofy by way of water-cooling and injection....

They're a great engine even by today's standards ! Considering the suspension, brake & tyre technology back then, the GSXR1100 must have been an untameable animal altogether..

i had a 1991 gsxr1100m a few years ago... last of the oil cooled engines....sorry i ever sold it.....an animal of a thing in a straight line... scary enough in the twisty bits....but back in 91 must have been 1 of the bikes to have...
