Mobile Tyre Replacement

So, went to take out the R1 today and the back tyre is totally flat. Didn't have time to inspect (late for work as it was) so no idea what the problem is yet. I'm guessing a nail or something. I need a new set of tyres anyway and was going to change them before the end of the year.

Just wondering if anyone does mobile tyre replacement for bikes in case it's totally screwed and won't hold pressure for me to drive it somewhere.

Check your Insurance Policy, as far as I know you are entitled to 2/3 pick up's a year, give them a ring and ask

+1 all bike insurance policies offer this and won't effect your current or next policy

Take the wheels off yourself and bring them to a bike shop.
While you are at it,order a set of captive spacers.

Re: Mobile Tyre Replacement

Remove nail/screw, fill tyre with tyre sealant (UltraSeal or Slime), inflate and ride on - hasn't let me down in 15 years.....

If the puncture is not in the threaded area of course, then the tyre is goosed and needs replacement.

I do have breakdown cover as part of my policy and I've already used it once this year when I had a water pump failure. I guess I may need to use it again.

If you own a pair of paddock stands, it is cheaper and easier

Gonna replace the tyres anyway. They are a good 5 years old and has seen a fair few trackdays. Slime is certainly an option just to get it to cotters. Although my general experience is that tyre places hate you when they have to deal with that crap when they take the wheel off.

I pretty much just use the R1 for trackdays and the odd weekend spin, neither of which I'd trust doing with a patched tyre.

I keep 5 spare bikes, in case I run out of somewhere to shag... and a couple of Chinese women in the loft, in case I'm feeling a tad peckish and need a number 37!

Fuck me, it's like being back at school!

Re: Mobile Tyre Replacement

ok, tyre was fine but valve was leaking at the base.

Put some air in the tyres, a little duct tape around the valve and I made it to cotters for a new set.
