for Czech Republic you need vest and first aid kit. DAYTIME LIGHTS ARE MANDATORY. Also be aware there is a ZERO limit for alcohol so although a breathalyzer is not mandatory it would be sensible to have one
Watch bridges on motorways and main roads for speed checks, usually they will have two policemen with a speed gun on the bridge who will radio ahead to a police bike or car who will pull you in a mile or two down the road.

basically vest, bulbs, small first aid kit and Breathalyzer should do you for all countries in Europe whether its the law or not, if you have them and dont need them whats the harm. that lot should easily fit beneath the seat.

France bored the arse off me this year, the drop to 80km/h on national routes has made a huge difference to enjoying the roads over there, oh, and it is enforced, rigorously, saw a load of English lads getting done by a Gendarmerie in an unmarked car in Brittany, met them later and they were all done €135 each for the "Gendarmerie argent de boisson", nobody goes over the limit and you can get stuck behind a queue of traffic for ages with no one daring to overtake.

The Breathalysers are legally required, but not enforced,if that makes sense.
You won’t be done for not having one.
The AA website (www.theaa.co.uk) have a country by country guide as to what’s required, but as above, don’t get carried away with stuff to bring,,spare ,cigs and credit card will see you through.
Here’s a link to the aa France guide,as I said, the website has lots more.

One last thing your intenerary(to me) looks way to busy, too planned.
Better off booking the outward and return ferry legs, and just go with the flow in between.Dont tie yourself to ambitious schedules, hotel reservations etc. that cause you to keep moving every day....you’ll enjoy it more if you allow yourself some spontaneity.

Hi Fledermaus....I agree with what you say, but I like things to be organised before I set off. If things go belly up, then I can book another place to stay.

If I leave things to the last minute, then I'll get screwed on prices...bad enough 8mths in advance.
