Interesting to see that Principals UK underwriters jumped ship earlier this year and now all policies underwritten by AXA Ireland.

Re: DEATH DRIVER on the WICKLOW GAP EARLIER

From the Meath Crime Prevention (Garda) FB account 3 hours ago (didn't mention how many or how long the checkpoints were there):

"Meath Division Roads Policing Unit carried out a number of checkpoints yesterday along with RSA Personnel as part of 'Operation Tyre'.

A total of ten motorists were detected driving on bald tyres. All were issued with Fixed Penalty Notices. Four vehicles were seized. Three of these were uninsured and the fourth was considered dangerously defective.

It's hard to believe that two of the uninsured drivers were on their way to court in Trim where they were facing charges of driving without insurance"

Re: DEATH DRIVER on the WICKLOW GAP EARLIER

On the subject of insurance. Its really starting to take an effect on recreational activities and places around the country. Bike Park Ireland, a popular family run organisation for mtb in Tipp has been closed for what feels like about 2 months and are struggling terribly to get the place insured. And I just read Octoberfest wont be happening this year either because of the premium.

I hate insurance companies as much as the next guy, but I think we can all agree we need it. Until something is done about bogus claims ie prosecute those making them. And also throw the fucking ridiculous ones out we are all fucked. Last week I read a story of a woman who successfully sued Starbucks Henry st. She bought a coffee, tea and cookie, walking to her table she had the tea between her elbow and waist. The tea spilled and scalded her. She was awarded 80k if memory serves as her argument was that she should have been given a tray.

So in total fairness.
It's not the insurance company.
Cunts that they are.

It's people putting in claims for things that don't deserve a payout.

Little Johnny breaks his arm playing in the local play centre. No ones fault. No negligence. Just life. But mammy and daddy see a bright future of holidays and new cage sooooo 30k pls.

It's the solicitors and judges seeking and awarding the ridiculous damages for idiots who get rewarded for their stupidity. Didn't some young one in Dublin scutting on a tram get 1 million after falling off the roof.
Life changing injuries but how is it the bloody luas fault?

We're trying to beat America for rewarding stupidity, and we've surpassed them by a long, long way. We only hear of the ridiculously big/stupid payouts in America, but they're happening here every day, and much worse.

Its absolutely true.

young girl on a bus involved in a collision. Mother sued on her behalf as she is only 15. Injuries board looked at her case, and awarded nearly 3000 Basically the window broke and she had some broken glass in her hair and a very minor cut to her forehead.
Solicitors recommended that they reject that, and appealed. 9 months later, yesterday in fact, the appeal quadrupled the payout. They are laughing their way to the bank with nearly 12 grand in their pocket, for what was a minor scratch.
You couldn't make it up, Ireland is the new wild west when it comes to money. Everyone is trying to screw everybody else, but eventually it will come full circle.
They think they have beat the system, but eventually it will beat them when the young girl decides she wants a car and cant get insurance.

That 12K will have cost the insurance company 100K or more, once all the lawyers and ambulance chasers get their cut.

Re: DEATH DRIVER on the WICKLOW GAP EARLIER

I've seen a few cases recently that I haven't got time to go back and find but basically it's where folks were in court trying to claim for something like an injured back, dodgy knee etc. They go to court, the defence shows video evidence of the claimant doing aerobics or taking part in several MMA fights (I'm not joking about that one) and the chancers decide to drop their case "Ah, ya got me, well sure I'll just walk out here and forget about making a claim then". There's no punishment, there's no follow up or prosecution. I'm not talking about a case being lost, I'm talking about the cunts being found out, that they're making up their injuries. Crazy.

to be fair that sounds like a genuine case not half as ridiculous as a grown woman trying to sue for falling off a swing while holding alcohol in both hands and stating there was no instruction for the swing..

Make the solicitor and the claimant liable for cases found fraudulent.

If the solicitors present a case with details to be found willfully wrong. Sting them for half the cost of the case. And maybe even hit them with criminal charges of perverting the course of justice.

They'd actually have to do work to prove the case and check the facts before things like this came to court.

One of the locals confirmed the above to me also. He was into rallying back in the day and is convinced the youth of the day haven't got a bog when it comes to driving. His way of pointing this out is to drive headlong at bikers.
When I explained the seriousness of this to the nice lady she laughed and said "sure he wouldn't really hit anyone, he's harmless" . Couldn't get her to see the seriousness of it.
As an aside she was storing a mates bike (which was undriveable) who crashed on the gap...

Is it possible she doesn't drive herself. There is also, to her - he is a fellow local and as such he cannot do any real wrong. The village ..... syndrome, an endemic problem in rural Ireland.

I flippantly stated my issue with that area was my face didn't fit in with fellow bikers cos I was riding a clapped out old nail and wearing a tracksuit.

The truth was that the gap is a melting pot of every flavour of fuckwits ya could ever have the misfortune to meet on the road and that demented old bastard is no more than a poster child for same. Its certainly not a safe place for solo biking.
