Son joyrides his dad's Ducati 996 SPS...And crashes!

And costs him 5,000 to put right
Posted: 28 March 2014
by Luke Bowler

According to the son (who uploaded the video), his parents - including his dad who owns the 996 SPS - were away on holiday.

So off he goes on his short test ride, 50 metres down the road and he's stacked it, apparently there was a small oil leak which caused him to crash. What he doesn't mention is that at 37 seconds in you can see he forgets to put the kickstand up, there's also a nice trail of kickstand-shaped evidence scratched along the road.

On a side note, are 996's held together with Pritt Stick?

ooh that's lousy!
He admits it was probably the side stand in the video comments, ooh god you can hear the fear and regret in the vid
Pity it didnt seem to have a switch on the stand.

I've a buddy that took out his relatives FZR250 years ago, had a brush with the law over it too.
If anyone has young people around, try not to leave temptation lying around if you can!

Nasty bit of damage that!
Side stand should have a cut off switch on it though, no? Would've saved a lot of pain!

Talk about the worst case scenario lol

tho one thing small in his favour.... i had a 2002 748s and the bike would ride away happily with the side stand down... i rode off once with it down and got really lucky when it stabbed the ground....

that said can you imagine when his father came home lol

At least he was OK, and fit to walk after it,...
