Route suggestion

Hi guys,

Planning to find the most enjoyable route from Drogheda to Buncrana.. any thoughts on the route below, please?

Drogheda-M1-Newry-Rostrevor-Kilkeel-SilentValley Mountain Park for tea-Newcastle-Strangford-ferry-Portaferry-MountStewart House-Belfast-A2 to Larne-Cushendall-Ballycastle-DarkHedges-Colerain-Derry-Buncrana.

About 400k and pretty much all day to do it.

Thanks!!

Re: Route suggestion

Ah stop, Drogheda gangs are the best, they keeps themselves in check, they prune, cull etc themselves, such a nice bunch of lads.

Re: Route suggestion

Ferry over to Greencastle and then on out the coast road up to Kilkeel and the silent valley reservoir and park.
Savage roads. Then back toward Mayobridge,Newry and then cross country to Lifford and into Donegal.

Re: Route suggestion

Heading up through Cavan is a nice spin. Head for Blacklion cris crossing the border a few times, roads aren’t too bad either. It’s a decent spin but you avoid motorways etc.

Re: Route suggestion

I was looking at the map last night and noticed the road from Silent Valley to Spelga dam area cutting thru Mourne mountains. Definitely planning to do that.

I have to be at Rostrevor for 9:30, and I did Carlingford ferry couple of months ago (was on a pedal bike to Newcastle), so I guess I will stick to Drogheda-Newry-Rostrevor but then will go back to Newry and Mayobridge, Spelgadam to SilentValley Park. And then to Newcastle, Clough, Downpatrick, Strangford - ferry - and then hug the coast to Ballycastle.

Surprised with no one suggesting Antrim coast in general - probably full of tourists given it's bank holiday weekend. I will take the cross-country route coming back for sure.

Re: Route suggestion

Just as an update... I did Drogheda-Carlingford-Newry-Mayobridge-SpelgaDam-SilentValley-NewCastle-Belfast-Larne-Antrim Coast upto Cushandall and then cross country to Derry etc.

After a week of 20 degree + heat, Saturday, the first day of the bank holiday weekend, the day I was riding up, somewhat predictably, it rained. From Newry. To Derry. 8 hours of solid non-stop rain. Mourne mountains were wet, grey and covered in clouds. Coastal roads were wet, grey and sea and sky blended into a giant grey canvas on the right side. This is my third attempt at riding Antrim coast, in last three years, and it rained every single time. I give up.
