Re: Yamaha Vmax

Great bikes pal.
Hard to find and prices are high. I paid 3450 for my one,but lots of extras and upgrades. They do go around bends ok but of course nothing like anything else, needs coaxing in and out...my one went down on a bend but thanks to stones . Try get full power one. Not great on petrol but better than some sports bikes. Comfortable bike especially when you get to my age (59) A good tip is slightly higher bars and a decent screen as in high screen send wind over top of lid. If upgraded rear shock great but if not cheap enough on Ebay. I would say have go on mine but it's in storage locker however if I sell the zzr soon and put cash into vmax it will be fixed quick and you are more that welcome to take spin.

Iíve got one in my collection and I love it, mad as a bag of mad yolks . Hold on tight when the vboost kicks in and when you get off you should be able to tie your shoelaces without bending down

Re: Yamaha Vmax

I've owned mine 19 yrs now and would never part with it.

Early models had 2nd gear trouble but I imagine by now anyone that gave trouble should be sorted

Starter clutches can go you'll hear the grinding the minute you try to start it. It's not a big deal to sort.

In my opinion don't bother with anything that isn't full power.

Early model pre 91 I think had 41 mms forks, 2 brush starter and analogue pick ups for the ignition. Later models had an improved 4 brush starter, 43mm forks (R1 blue/gold spot calipers bolt straight on) and digital ignition.

They don't handle

If you need to know anything specific let me know. I've done heaps to mine

Forks look like twigs, can you put upsidedown / stronger R1 front end / complete with better brakes on them ?

Fella like you could machine new yokes during lunch time

Re: Yamaha Vmax

First, blue spot upgrade
https://www.biker.ie/forum/showthread.php?t=71101

Then look into a 17" rear wheel so you can put radials on

Billet slugs and new yokes or stepped yokes. The R1 forks are shorter. Progressive springs and a fork brace make a big difference.

Surely the brakes can't be worse than the ZX12R lol. Braided line and R1 blue spots and you'll be stopping on a sixpence

Well wear
