Bike Insurance in Ireland -How much do you pay?

Hi there,

I just want to see more or less what'd be an average price for an insurance in Ireland. I know they are very expensive and there aren't many companies in the market.

I tried to get a quote online but since I'm from Barcelona, they won't give it to me. Before I go to an agency I'd like to get some info (in case they want to rip me off).

I'm 34 years old and have been driving bikes for the last 18 years. I would also buy a 500cc or 600cc irish bike.

Thanks

Ernest.-

I paid €900 for a Honda Bros 400.I'm 21 have full liecence,no no claims discount and a level 2 assessment.I'd say yours should be lower than this.

Re: Insurances in Ireland -How much do you pay?

This is the thing that I don't get here... if a second hand bike costs 2-3K euro, howcome the insurance per year is already 40% of the bike's cost?

Crazy, don't you thing? do you think scooters are much cheaper to insure (I don't know how to spell that word! )

Re: Insurances in Ireland -How much do you pay?

Scooters should be cheaper to insure.Insurance is so high because of the amount of road traffic accidents and road deaths(well thats what the insurance companies say!!).

Re: Insurances in Ireland -How much do you pay?

My insurance costs nearly the same as my bike

Last year my insurance was 1314 with Nash...bought the bike for 1500...VRT'd it for 110 and taxed it for 67 = all up 2991 before I put a drop in or maintain it

29 with 3 years NCB, full licence, but live in Dublin and get rode for it...will be Quinn Directing it come renewal next month...they werent around last time

I drive a 3 series coupe as well and that costs a grand for myself and the missus...rip off Ireland alive and well as a biker...

I'd expect yours to be a good bit cheaper though Ernest, once they take account of your previous riding experience...I lost my previous NCB from when I was younger as I lived in the States and in Australia for a few years in the middle

Re: Bike Insurance in Ireland -How much do you pay?

Can anybody tell me
-how many insurers there are in RoIreland
-do NI insurance cover in RoI
Full licence for 36 years, max NCB - 18 years, not interested in paying over the odds.
point is UK accept full NCB, what about RoI?

4 insurers in RoI, and no, normal RoI residents cannot avail of out of country insurers (incl NI). Something to do with the insurers required to have an office in the state, or some such bs.

You'll need to bring a certificate stating your NCB (I think), but it should be recognised here (if not, get on to the insurance ombudsman )
