Just got my renewal gone up from 350 fully comp last year to 550 TPO this year. 12 years ncb.2 theft claims in that time small 2k each.so they cut my cover from fully comp to TPO midterm even though I paid extra for protection all those years.in effect ncb protection is worthless so beware all insurers in particular nash.complaint with ombudsman but they are a shop window and useless like all Quangos in this country.

Re: Carole nash

Was that protection Full NCB or step back? only asking as mine is due next month, with Nash. That's a sizeable jump with a (so called) protection policy in place. Obviously means nothing, just another way of grabbing more yo yo's off us.

Re: Carole nash

If you paid for Full NCB and they would not comply, then they sold you something they failed to facilitate you with. This is illegal and why the ombudsman is in place. Get back onto both and if you are on the right side of things dont let either pizz you off. It's your money after all.

Yeh full ncb protection not stepback yes and very likely is dodgy but point is that ncb protection premium is a con

Well there's the con.
They say I still have my ncb 12 years but they screwed me over by cutting cover and raising premium and ncb protection not transferable to another insurers

Re: Carole nash

They have loaded your premium and reduced your cover.

Even though your NCB % is protected and maybe the same as before, you still end up paying more (for less) as the gross premium is much higher now.

Re: Carole nash

Over the years, I've been consistently frustrated by the billing practices of insurers in the Irish market. They have no motivation to improve their services or products.

There was a time when I was told I'd need independent policies for multiple bikes - and pay accordingly, >1K for one bike, and >1K for another bike... wow. At least that's changed in my lifetime.

No insurer, as far as I'm aware, offers partial-year coverage - that is, within a range of specific dates - so one might insure their bike for just the summer, as an example.

No insurer, as far as I'm aware, offers any discount for incorporating an independent, objective third-party witness (i.e., a dashcam) into your bike. (I see AXA are doing that only for a very specific dash cam in cages.)

Ireland is a small market with no competition. Here is one place I'd like to see some EU regulations in place to help us. But at the pace these things move, I'll be dead before they come into effect.

Re: Carole nash

Lads, what ye need to understand is what exactly Full NCB protection is. It is only a protection on the number of years NCB you hold, not a protection of the premium paid/to be paid in the future.

Usually under Full NCB protection, you will be allowed one claim in a policy year, or maybe even in a 3 yr period if with the same insurer, without losing your NCB %(remember not premium), if you have a second claim in the specified period, you will be Stepped back, usually to two year %, a third claim will wipe any entitlement out.

Any insurer is entitled to reduce/restrict cover where multiple similar claims arise, as it shows them there is increased exposure to certain risk, in the OP's case, it's theft, so points to lack of security, or high risk area.

There is no such thing as Premium Protection. Liberty are dingers at this lark.

CN are tricky, I'll grant you that, and if moving insurer, you will be asked if any insurer has imposed special terms.conditions or restrictions. Up to each person to answer that, on how they feel about it.

Insurers are all linked to each other, any discrepancy might not be spotted immediately, but it will be spotted.

I have plenty stories on this.

Re: Carole nash

CN renewal dropped through the letterbox the other day, another year older, another year wiser, no change to bikes, no points on license, no claims etc etc.

34% increase in premium.

I pity the poor fucker from CN who rings me to follow up on the quotation.

there doesnt seem to be any transparent rules around insurance premium costs, i was with principal last year, recent renewal up a bit from last year but i wanted obviously for it to be lower, no budge from principal, CN hit the figure i gave them of around 350

Re: Carole nash

Problem is, thanks to Brexit, as far as I can see we now have two underwriters in the Irish market :
CN are underwritten by Axa now
Principal are now underwritten by Axa
Axa are, erm, Axa
and Liberty

In essence, the other underwriters that were competition, are UK based, and have had to remove themselves from other EU markets because of Brexit - leaving not many underlying choices ...
I reckon we'll see a few new entrants in the next 18 months, but these things take time to shake out

Got a quote from Carole Nash yesterday, no mention of AXA, they're still going through Ageas. Where'd you hear they're now underwritten by AXA?

Re: Carole nash

Email from principal today,FWIW.

Dear Customer,

Principal Insurance Limited is a UK based insurance broker with a branch in Dublin, Republic of Ireland. Principal Insurance arranges and administer general insurance policies for customers in the Republic of Ireland via a passport permission through the United Kingdomís regulator; the Financial Conduct Authority.
This notice sets out the likely consequences for Principal Insurance Limitedís customers if there is no transition period agreed regarding the United Kingdomís exit from the European Union.
Principal Insurance Limited in the UK has taken steps to ensure that the Dublin branch can continue to trade thus enabling continuous administration of your insurance policy if there is no transition period.
All insurers on the panel are in the process of reviewing all contingency options with the intention of having a plan in place with respect to a no deal Brexit. The insurers have confirmed that all commitments will be met, and all valid claims received on all contracts issued will be paid unless they are prevented from doing so by relevant regulators.
In the event of a no deal Brexit scenario, all new contracts issued after 29th March 2019 will be underwritten by EU insurers.
Principal Insurance Limited has created a new entity in the ROI, from 29th March, Principal Insurance Limited will become Principal Insurance Ireland DAC and is in the process of applying for regulation through the Central Bank of Ireland.

Happy to be wrong on that :)
It's hard to dig through their ownership / underwriter announcement history given the situation across UK and Irish entities.
