Re: Stolen Bike Thread

Just thought I would chip in with my own theivery story, my cousin has a 2002 yamaha aerox scooter (yes , I know). Anyway, some skinny shithead squeezed in through their window one night and stole the keys (silly idiot missed the car keys...) he then proceeded to steal the scooter after cutting the chain.
Naturally muy cousin was a little peeved at the whole state of affairs. After about a week his mum spots the bike about 1 MILE away in some shitty estate, parked up outside a house with a chain on it and everything!! (it had a stupid chome fairing so it was easy to spot).
Of course we all decide to take a trip round to meet this individual at home, as we approach he gets on the scooter and tries to escape down the street, after being confounded by a kerb he drops it and runs. At which point we just call the police and tell them where he lives...

Long story short the police failed to prosecute due to lack of evidence, despite having fingerprints in the house and on the scooter and more than a few eye witnesses.
But as it turns out they were gathering eveidence for a number of more serious crimes and eventually they got the scumbag for GBH and a few other assorted nasty things.
His mum maintains his innocence. Presumably she didn't notice his new scooter or his lack of a job to pay for it.....

Angry Re: Stolen Bike Thread

OK, so I just stopped in the chip shop after work and parked the bike just outside.
Fie mins later I walk out again and notice that some scrote has stolen my dust caps I mean, come on, who does that? some arsehole kids probably. I am usually opposed to any kind of violence, especially towards children, but I think it's fair to say that if i had walked out earlier and caught him I would've bashed his skull in with my helmet...

Re: Stolen Bike Thread

Hi all,

I had my scooter stolen last Friday morning between 2am and 8am in Donaghmede.

It's a 98 Yamaha Spy 50cc, not worth much but it got me in to work and back!

Reg: 98 MO 3454
Colour: all black

I've attached a picture but this was before I sprayed all the panels black!

Any information would be great!!!

Regards,
Tekhead

Re: Stolen Bike Thread

3 knacker scumbags tried to nick my bike from outside my girlfriends place in Tallaght last night. I recognised one of them, well known car thief from the halting site in Rossfield. It seems he is turning his attention to bikes now. Watch out for him, about 17 years old, red spikey hair, about 5ft 4, and often wears stripey tshirts or jumpers (must be a sale on in Knacks & Pikeys).

Didnt bother reporting it, unfortunately this little bastard is picked up on a regular basis in stolen cars but the judges just keep letting him out again. I have reported him a few times when I caught him dumping stolen cars and I have chased him away from neighbours cars plenty of times. Besides, I wouldnt want anything linking him to me if he happened to have a nasty accident ;-)

Look back to page 8 of this thread, red rebel can do 'em for about €400 and no reoccuring charges after.

Re: Stolen Bike Thread

You can get a personal tracker from Maplin.

http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?...114&doy=search

Looks like a "pay as you go" account is required, and you'd need to keep the battery charged like any mobile, but as long as it was reasonably accessible you could just remember to charge it once a week and keep the account up to date.

I did some work for a bloke who hires out loading shovels, diggers and the like. He was telling me he had to get trackers fitted as a condition of renewing his insurance. Never asked him how much it cost though. Apparently a lot of site & farm machinery gets nicked but like bikes you don't hear much about it.

Bike specific trackers would be good but they'd have to be small, waterproof and cheapish.

Re: Stolen Bike Thread

Stolen Last night (October 20th, 2008) from Palmerston Park, Rathgar.

2003 BMW R1150GS adventure Reg: 03D 74453

As you can see from the photo I've made it look quite distinctive with the yellow trim. Dublin bikers would be familiar with this bike as it has my company logo all over it (Tech on Time) and my phone number on it.

Also stolen with the bike is a ZUMO sat-nav which was in the alluminium luggage.

There is some light damage on the right side of the bike where it slid down the road a few months ago.

Extra mods: yellow hand guards, Sat-Nav mount on handlebar, logo on luggage, small wind spoiler on windscreen, extra headlamps, aluminium protection on centre-stand.
