Mini Rant!!!

Feckin tax disc got clepped off the bike today. The feckers just broke off the fairly sturdy metal holder that was bolted to the rear of my bike.

Feckin feckers.......

Rant over!!

Re: Mini Rant!!!

After the second time that happened to me I stopped using holders. Now I just get the disc laminated and stick it to the back of the numberplate. It's easier to steal but at least I dont risk them damaging the bike taking it and I haven't lost a €20 holder. Haven't had one nicked since I started doing this. There'll be someone along shortly to tell you to carry the disc in your wallet.

Already got the form filled out and stamped in the Garda Station............down to the local tax office tomorrow to find out how much the thieving scumbag has cost me.

I think I'll just laminate the new one and keep it in my tank bag.

Could you get away with photocopying the tax disc and leaving the photocopied version on the bike and keep the original in your wallet or something?

You'll get done for fraud.
Keeping it in your wallet gets you a charge of failing to display.

Mines been taken twice, i keep it in my wallet since. I have been stopped at 3 seperate checkpoints and never had any hassle with showing them it from my wallet. Explained that it was stolen twice and no issues.

This. The Gards know it's an issue and understand someone keeping it on their person. To follow the letter of the law, it should be displayed on the vehicle but the onus is that the tax is paid and current.

Re: Mini Rant!!!

I got given mine in a disk holder when I bought the bike. Kept meaning to screw it on but just left it in my bike jacket pocket.

On the day of the test, tester said (without prompting) "Is your tax on the bike or do you keep it on your person?"

So if it was good enough for him...

Thats clever, solves both problems, only it would be big and awkward if flat, maybe put it into one of those round tax holders.

Re: Mini Rant!!!

Impossible to get them tubular disk holders any more since the UK stopped using them. Indeed, there are few places on most bikes to stick any sort of tax disk holder on without damaging bodywork.
Do we need tax disks really? ANPR should do away with need for it. If we don't need insurance disks on a bike then surely the same should be the case for motorcycles? Or else come up with a german style sticker thing that goes on the numberplate?

Re: Mini Rant!!!

Always put the previous year's discs in the holders, along with a note to say that the current discs are kept on my person.

I wouldn't copy the current discs and fit them to the bikes as that is considered fraud, plus a little fuckwit probably won't see it's a copy and have it along with the holder.

Re: Mini Rant!!!

Never had a problem with not showing tax disc (keeping it in my wallet), even in the event of accident and never had it stolen but If I will get a question that's my answer (haven't been asked why it's not on bike). So u know... If guard will want to get u for something he will, most will not have problem with tax.

Re: Mini Rant!!!

Never had an issue either with it on hand . if you haven't always got your head down you can get one of those sticky yokes for the car tax disks and put in on the windscreen , i have mine pointing inwards so the scummers don't see it . When i renew my taxx i rip it off , clean off the adhesive and put a new one on . Takes 5 mins and never had an issue when at a checkpoint .

This, with a colour photocopied tax disk, much more likely to be done for not displaying if it's in your wallet and away from your bike than for fraud, nobody is going to scrutinise it that closely, Guards just give it a sideways glance, traffic wardens the same, being doing this for 20 years with no problem,
