I saw a fella pulled in on the Ashbourne road, the back road if you go from swords. He was kneeling down on one knee looking into the engine. I copped it was a "cafe" bike that looked like it had been put together by Helen Keller after a particular heavy session of LSD, whiskey, electro shock treatment and sodomy but i said F-it il pull in and see if he is ok. I turned round and rode back.

As i pulled up on the side of the road a cold chill grew over me.... He was tall and skinny. Too skinny to be the sort of fella that ate normal food. My brain said "Here, this fella is on the dried Kale and cinnamon flakes, get out of here" but my heart said "fellow biker, help him". As i approached he gave me a nod, but not the normal howareya nod... it was a smug “Im living the life style” sort of nod.

I did a quick recki of the bike. CX500, no front mudguard (fatal), tan brown seat and no rear mudguard, exhaust wrapped and stubby silencer, “Live and let die” painted on the tank….

The auld brain kicks in again… “here, run away.. this lad is a hipster. We hate hipsterissssis.” (Brain voice talks like Gollum when hipsters are around)

Heart says no, help him.

So with a heavy heart start to talk to him and it goes like this…..

“Ya alright?”

“not really…”

“whats up?”

“It just started to die and now it wont go. Ive run the battery flat too”

“Are you far from home?”

“Not really, I have a garage about 1 km away, I cafed this beast there…..” (SHUDDER)

I look over the bike….. the fuel tap is off.

“Pistons broke” I says….. Push her home and lift the heads before you do anything else.

He nods in slow agreement and thanks me.

G’Luck says I and away I go.

One less abortion on the road.
Is this him? the first pic Google returned under "cafe racer hipster"

PS: bikes don't have to actually run for hipster photo shoots
