Social media is the only way in these circumstances. Clunky, but if enough is posted; people take notice and when it becomes a political card, then shit gets done.

Tax revenue is more important to the State than people's lives.

Judge Martin Nolan needs a kick up the hole, while bikers being treated like 2nd class citizens are certainly beneath his pompous hairy nostrils and 3-pointed star, you wouldn't have thought we were beneath the drunk driving rampages of an alcoholic (with numerous previous convictions) who chose to blatantly ignore a 10month driving ban, kill someone and then lie to the Gardai placing the finger of blame on his dead victim.

That particular judge was appointed by the bertie brigade and has been known to be very lenient on his peers, criminals in Anglo who fucked the entire country for cash, and sex abusers and child pornographers - but where do you go when our minister for 'Justice' was just as biased and corrupt ?

Social media is sometimes the last weapon. Messy, but can be effective.

Was thinking about our crazy justice system yesterday when reading about Frederick Chamwho was jailed for four years for helping to smuggle people illegally into the country and comparing this to an already disqualified driver "who has six previous convictions, had been disqualified from driving for six years a year before the crash for drink-driving and was disqualified for a further 10 years last year for more driving-related offences" who just gets a few months for killing a motorcyclist.

when you kill someone with a cage and such it should be mandatory manslaughter if caused by drink/drugs/speeding. After all its a dangerous weapon.

Was thinking the exact same yesterday.
The case reminds me of the women down in Clare a few years back too. Basically got away with murder.

The driver had insurance according to the judge, so I would think that the widow should receive a decent payout, I would expect in the region of 1million Euro, taking account of future loss of earnings, 2 kids, etc. The problem of disqualified drivers continuing to drive is a scandal, and it seems as though it is not being taken seriously, while softer targets are being hammered. Max sentence of 2 years, as in this case needs to be questioned too

I missed this post somehow and only got to see it now. Can't believe he only got 10 months!

Sincere sympathy to his family. As regards insurance, I can't believe they would stand over him when he was already banned and should not have been driving.

Isn't this the reason for the MIBI compensation scheme, to cover injury or loss caused by the uninsured or the unidentified?

“He prided himself as someone who had never touched another vehicle in his work life,” Mr McGillicuddy said.

How in the name of fuck does that work ? Banned from driving for drinking.....doesn't pride himself all that much.

Read a report in the Daily Mirror 24 Feb, about a driver, high on coke, who drove for 80 km, at speeds up to 200 km/h, on the WRONG side of the M4, he drove at Gardai, damaged toll booths, eventually ran out of road, and had to be tasered. There were several near misses during this rampage, including a Garda nearly being run over while trying to deploy a stinger.
His punishment????
Two and a half years SUSPENDED sentence,and...
a 4 year driving ban.

I always said if you need to kill someone, don't use a gun or a knife, just get drunk and mow them over, Be lucky to get jail time that way
