3 Points for speeding

I got done for speeding yesterday.

Do I wait until my insurance renewal in August to notify Carole Nash or do I need to let them know once I've received the fine in the post? The 3 points are my first in over 35 years driving and riding and I'm annoyed with myself, how will they impact my insurance premiums?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Re: 3 Points for speeding

Bad luck...

As soon as you are notified of the offence, you must let your insurer know.

It may not impact your premium, some will allow you 3 points without effect (happened me a few years back)...but I don't what CN will do...

Where did it happen to help others be vigilant.

I near fell over when I got caught in the cage in 2016.
5kms over limit that it's three points for 3 years!

Wait till you get the notice in the post before you let them know....you don't have them till you get them and accept them

Also if there are any errors on the notice you can appeal it

I got off a one way street notice recently coz the Guard made an error

It was two guards using a hand radar on the Ballyboden Road in Dublin. There's one of those road safety speed display signs about 200m down from where they were tucked away but I noticed it was turned off that morning. Though I can't honestly blame that for me being a idiot!

whats that in old Money 3mph that's a bit rich, what a dangerous driver your missus is

Over here the typical rule of thumbs is "9 is fine 10 you're mine"
"12 is fine 16 you're mine" doesn't sound so poetic

If you accept them, pay accordingly, it can still take months for administration to apply them to your record. So if your renewal comes up and you still haven't received correspondence that they have been, well you don't have any points yet.

The last time I had points on my licence, it did take some time for them to be applied to my record...but, I was never informed that they had been added, or indeed removed.

What I would argue, is when you are informed you have committed an offence that attracts points, to not inform your insurer at that point is failure to disclose pertinent information...I'm not a solicitor, but I know which side of the argument I'd rather be on if things went pear-shaped...

Re: 3 Points for speeding

Maybe a silly question but if guards are facing you with the speed-gun point at the front of the bike how did they get a pic of the back of the bike in time as your passing by at speed? Do they send you out a pic of the bike and reg with it?
I know that road well just at the pitches.

But insurers ask have you ever been convicted if an offence, not committed one, and with not been informed about points applied or removed is down to cost cutting measures and all this saving the planet malarky. They're passing the onus on to each and every individual to make sure you get your facts right, so they have the facts on you

Re: 3 Points for speeding

We had this arguement with management in work. A conviction only happens in a court with a judge. If you go to court for a motoring offence, many courts will insist you bring your licence so points or disqualifications can be issued on the day.
Points are points. The RSA write to you to inform you you have them, and they also write to tell you when they are gone. If you have been caught speeding, and have paid the fine, you can assume you have the points, and should inform the insurers accordingly. Most insurers do not take the first two points into consideration, depending on the circumstances of the offence.
A conviction however does not go away.
