Xjr1200 or Bandit 1200

Howdy lads and lassies, I'm looking at getting a bike again after a necessary sabbatical, I have spotted a 1997 bandit and a 1994 xjr, I have never had either so I'm looking for some guidance from ye, both are in my price range, all help appreciated, thanks.

Re: Xjr1200 or Bandit 1200

i had a 94 xjr 1200.... 1 of the best bikes i ever had and they look good too....big comfortable bulletproof engine...bandit is probably a bit faster and just as reliable.....but id pick the xjr everytime.....sorry i never kept on to mine.... their a bit softly sprung and by now the engine paint would probably need to cleaned up....but with a bit of work they can look great

Re: Xjr1200 or Bandit 1200

only downfall to bandit 12 is that it only has 5 gears, apart from that its a brilliant bike
im not sure how many gears are on the xjr?????

I don't see the problem with 5 gears. A lot of big bikes from that era only had 5. It's not like he's going racing it on the track. 5 gears are fine for anything with enough torque, and both of those bikes have plenty.

Re: Xjr1200 or Bandit 1200

Very similar bikes both in looks and reliability, can't go wrong with either I'd say.

My money would be on the XJR, but just as a biased brand preference.

Re: Xjr1200 or Bandit 1200

Being biased I'd also say Bandit - been on them for 15+ years and they've never let me down. Parts are cheap/easy to find and they have probably the biggest aftermarket catalogue of any bike out there.

With a few choice mods (start with suspension), they can hustle just fine....

A the end of the day - either bike will be dandy, especially with a modest budget - go with the best model of either you can find !
