Re: high mileage bike,

If its free, take it.

I dont understand why people get hung up on the mileage of a bike. If its looked after like your described it should be great or an excellent project

If its a genuine 1 owner and the price was right, I wouldn't be put off.
But as I say, the price would want to be right.

15,000 miles a year is higher than average mileage. Is this
reflected in the price?

Check against service and MOT history to see if any major
service work is due soon. Valve clearance should be checked
every 24,000 miles.

Motorway miles are probably less damaging than town miles.

Why would you buy an R1 if you were 65 and commuted on the motorway?
Each to their own and all that but it doesn't make sense to me unless you live in Germany.

Re: high mileage bike,

I'd be happy if I could walk upright when I'm 65, let alone a major commute on an R1 - fair play to the gent for not getting an FJR.....

Why's he offloading this one at 85k so....

Again - if it's cheap, then why not - it's had an easier life (and will last longer) than a yoke with 8,500 (mostly track miles) you've to remember !

Mileage isnít an issue if the bike is looked after. Wouldnít worry me. Probably last longer than somebody 10k mile bikes round here

Re: high mileage bike,

I'd prefer a big mileage bike that's been serviced
Then a yoke with 8k miles sitting in a shed for 11 months a year

Re: high mileage bike,

Only downside of a high milage bike is trying to sell it after, most people would walk away.

Other than that, everything else has been said already if it's a well maintained bike and at the right price, you shouldn't have any issues.

Knock 80k off and advertise it for sale as 'mint' like a certain gangsters paradise in the midlands.

Big bucks to be made with imported high-milers and being fair, most would never even notice any real difference as generally speaking these yokes are used as bling / ornaments for bragging rights here and scaring themselves shitless 2 -3 days per year during a heatwave in the summer months, rather than ever clocking up any real mileage - that's why anything in Ireland with over 20k on the clock is pretty much considered SHOCKING and tantamount to being a total write off in comparison to something that's had its numbers digitally enhanced
