Tesla summon

Tesla has updated their self driving software so that people can "summon" their cars parked in parking lots. It works as good as you think it does, so do keep an extra eye open becuase I'm sure people will abuse this "feature"

Re: Tesla summon

Not allowed to be used in Ireland AFAIK. Legislation doesn't allow it. Couple of smarmy BMW cages have something similar too, not sure on them.

Re: Tesla summon

Some AI enhanced black goi with HD eyebrows and a steely look ‘summoned’ a Diavel / Triumph hybrid in the latest Hobbs & Nobbs fast & furious film, just like Tonto whistling for ‘White Feller’ back in the days when a colt 45 sorted any round table discussions about climate change.

They can adopt Irish legislation at the drop of a hat (full of ‘contributions’) but how long before one of these hybrids bucks the rider, bolts for the hills and leaves its owner stranded at sundown in places where the hills-have-eyes and they eat their young like carrickmacross ?

Re: Tesla summon

Self driving cars are way safer than your average facebook/snapchat driver.

The quicker they make the transition for all those cager zombies, the better. Traffic will be better, less accidents and less stories in the news papers about the "poor angel taken too son", while the poor angel was doing everything but focusing on driving.

Re: Tesla summon

The only concern I would have is who is responsible when the inevitable collision occurs?

Could the owner of a self drive car be charged and get points on their license even though they were not driving?

This is always going to be the problem, because, ultimately, the manufacturers should be responsible, but I can't see that happening any time soon.
Same goes for speeding, and riding the neighbour's missus. Oh, sorry, that's a different story.

Manufacturers certainly wont take responsibility for any collision or motoring offense. Most likely you will still be required to hold a full license, even if you have an autonomous vehicle. There will be the option for the driver to take control of the vehicle in an effort to avoid a collision, or reduce speed etc, and so at that point the responsibility shifts back to the driver as ultimately he/she can be in control of the vehicle at all times.

So what's the point of self-driving then?
If you have to be in control and can be held accountable in the event of an accident then why bother.
Personally I would rather not have to wait for the computer to decide what to do when there's only a second in which to avoid an accident.
Self-driving will never happen anyway so no point worrying

You CAN be in control, you don't HAVE to be in control at all times. It's a safety measure. Just because the car is self driving doesn't mean you hop into the back seat for 40 winks on the way to work.

And for what its worth, its going to happen a lot sooner than many people think. The amount of investment that automobile manufacturers are pouring into this is insane. Its literally become too big to fail, they simply HAVE to get a return on it.

..its coming and sort of inevitable ... a bit like climate change. Much is dependant on the rollout of the 5G network. Many cages now have autonomous braking & cruise control, self parking, lane assist..etc - sorta dumbing down on the driver(if they weren't dumb enough already). If you're not paying attention(asleep, updating farcebook or simply jerking off) the cage starts to make a noise(high pitch whinge or a moan .. ).

Cage manufacturers spend millions on experimental tech every year, most of which never sees the light of day.
They use lessons learned to develop/improve the pointless crap on the next generation.
A guy told me a while back about his experience with one such clusterfuck.
He bought a german cage which is famously reliable,or so they boast
So one day he was driving along when the cage started wandering around the road.He had to steer like a maniac to get it to stay straight so he could pull over.
Turned out it was a common fault with that model, they fitted it with fly-by-wire steering(seriously)so no mechanical connection between the steering wheel and the road wheels.
It seems mobile phone radiation was interfering with the system and driving it haywire.
Those things were never re-called btw, they just upgraded the software when it acted up.
That'll tell you the regard those fuckers have for safety.
Just as well not everything in life is as reliable as their products.

Re: Tesla summon

Self driving is going to become a thing and if no one will insure them then the cage companies will just set up their own company or one of the existing insurance companies will see the profits to be made and give in. I also don't think the statement they'll cause more accidents is valid, yes more accidents from part failure but that will be outweighed by the number of reduced accidents caused by human error.

Even a minor accident in one of those would become a legal quagmire that would drag on for years and cost millions.
Any ins company would run a mile.
