Smile Racing Helmet...

Evening...
Was looking at a new helmets for racing...
Does anyone know if I can use a helmet with a clip on the strap or does it have to be the double d ring set up?
Thanks in advance !!

Re: Racing Helmet...

I'm almost certain that it must be a double D.

Re: Racing Helmet...

Very important.racing helmets are only useable for 5 years.I know guys who have bought brand new life online and they are too old to be used.there's a label with the date below the padding.on aria there's a letter stamped on the double d which translates to a year.BE CAREFUL

Not true - once they have an ACU Gold sticker, they're good for racing - helmets with micro-metric buckles and ACU Gold stickers are available on the (cheaper end of the racing helmet) market.....

Yer talking absolute bollox. Stop giving out advice until you know at least something about what you are talking about. ONLY DD fastners are allowed. No other type will pass scrutineering. No ifs ands or buts about it. There are some other stipulations they must pass as well so read up about them before investing. ACU stickers can be bought for a euro each and stuck on any helmet, I've been in shops where they have reams of them on rolls. "How many do you want?". All they mean is that you have made a donation to a "Fallen riders" fund in the UK. If anyone wants to find out the regulations about racing, they are all to be found on MCUI website. Alternatively, go to someone like Ronan Pentony in RPM, or Cotters and ask them for advice. Tell them you need it for racing and they will give you solid advice.

Re: Racing Helmet...

So you're saying a micro-metric buckle helmet (not the older seat-belt type buckle) will not get an MCUI stamp for any MCUI regulated event ?

I'm telling you that if you raced short circuit or roads with anything other than a double D ring helmet in the last 2 years at the very least, you were breaking the regulations and your licence would have, and should have been taken from you if the authorities had known. Racing in any other discipline is something I know nothing about and so I wouldn't give advice on.

Re: Racing Helmet...

Ok - to close out on this, listen to bow leg.

A number of years ago I had sold (micro-metric buckle) helmets to lads who were using them for racing (pre '97's) so I just called one of them there and he informs me that they were banned in 2012 (apparently after some lads had already purchased them for the season !), so DD ring is all that will get an MCUI stamp now.

Apologies for the misleading (outdated on my part) information.

Easy mistake to make given it wasfrom past experience, and thanks for correcting the post. Fair play.

Re: Racing Helmet...

100% the date of manufacture is checked before an mcui sticker is applied.you could easily pay big money for a helmet that has only one year left on it.the 5 year rule is strictly enforced

Re: Racing Helmet...

If ya have your race licence some shops will do a discount for particular hemets for racing.
I got an Arai last year off Ernie Coates with a 25% discount when I sent a copy of my licence.
