Default Very few bikes out

Is it just me or are there very few bikes on the road at the minute. I Didnt see one on the way to work this morning. Also heading for 400ppl in my job and only 2 full time biker 2 mopeds maybe one a week each and a harley maybe twice a yr.

I know the whole thing about ibt etc and young lads being put off but surely there are more bikes around than this.

If i have to take the cage it can be up to an hour and a half commute for me and routinely an hour. Never more than 35 mins on the bike.

Including faffing around with gear etc thats leaves time for a shower and breakfast. And ya save a fortune on petrol.

Get the bikes out lads!

I used to commute Drogheda-Dublin City Center five days a week rain or snow for 7 years or so, now I have started working from home more often and only commute two days a week (Drogheda-Dundrum). Went from 2000 kms a month to 1100 kms a month. No point being out on the bike for the sake of it, and not to mention the crazies on the M50 on their phones.

Having said that, where I park the bike near work still have 4-5 bikes most days of the week, including a sweet looking blue blackbird. There are bikers around, and I am sure more will be out a few weeks into March after their winter hibernation.

Is it also a case of health and safety gone mad?

I was at a christining recently and there was a kid playing with a toy bike. The mother brings him over to me and says look he drives a real bike. at which pint the da abruptly buts in with 'something you will never be allowed to do'

Me ma's sister wont let me in the house if im on the bike as it is a bad influence on her 21yr old son.

On the flip side of that in the canteen in work there is a picture from '69 of my da and another lad coming in the entrance gates on 2 bikes, shirts open half way down and not a helmet in sight wit mots on the back.

This is the best weather for biking. Cool but dry and not so sunny that you're squinting the whole time. Haven't been off the bike the past couple of months! Incredible for this time of the year.

this, use it regularly, i have an old beemer F650 that i use over the winter cos its worth nothing but it is actually not a bad yoke at all, ideal for commuting and general faffing around, keeps the good yoke in out of the shit conditions too - i know im fortunate to be able to have more than one bike but it is ideal if you can do it.
Otherwise the use of acf50 or similar is a great way to protect your bike plus some kind of cover when its parked.
Using the bike as much as poss in winter also means your not losing your roadcraft, youre not rusty heading out on the first sunny sunday, a sure recipe for fuck ups.
anyway, nothing beats getting home soaking wet frozen cold and shattered from fighting icy rain and savage wind plus all the blind cunts on the road with their full lights on plus foglights and stabbing the fooking brakes for no fooking reason whenever they fooking get scared of their own fooking shadow, wankers.....................

anyway, as i said, nothing beats getting home......

After being pretty much alone in the road for a few months, I'll say that I just now started seeing other bikers out in the road.

Particularly this week, lots of bikers out.

I think people see the whole license aspect of it as a preventative/barrier to entry. Not to mention increasing premiums despite having no claims etc. Plus, outside of the odd deal on dungdeal bikes can be bloody expensive these days.

I personally need 3 things: an empty twisty road, clear mind and dry weather. But I also commute every single day. Give us few more weeks of good weather and more bikers will pop out. Defo typical weekend coffee destinations like Largah will get busier.
