Someone has to buy the demo...that only makes sense if there’s a possibility of selling a few off the back of it to absorb the cost...margins on new bikes are mostly quite small so you’d need to move a few units to make up any loses, plus you then have the demo to sell when it’s served it’s purpose, and you have to cover a warranty period, potential damage, and wear and tear. 100 Katanas selling in Ireland?...maybe over 5 years, maybe!! Most bikes like that will be imported from the UK when there’s a second hand market for them, they don’t sell new here in big numbers

Why is it that all bikes will have to be able to do everything though?!

I don't think many would ride a 250cc across the country or ride an R6 across the country, not unless you are young and flexible. Wouldn't want to filter thru Dublin traffic with a ginormous touring bike etc etc...

Current electric bike technology is good for some commuting - wouldn't suite me personally, but here's hoping it all improves. I would love to be able to charge overnight at home, enjoy all that instant torque, zero maintenance, no more petrol station queuing up to pay etc etc.

The problem with Suzuki Ireland is the motorcycle and atv division is a separate entity to the marine and automotive side which are run through Suzuki GB. So all funding for Irish shows, promotions, test rides and such expenses must be paid for out of Irish Bike and Atv sales which are pretty dismal and not helped by the fact a good portion of the market go straight to the U.K. Not sure where the 5.5 million population figure is from?

If suzuki Ireland (who ever the fuck they are) actually let people test ride a bike and sold loads and then sold the demo bike for not too much money they would do great business what am I missing here? (same for electric bike sellers)
If yer mad keen to try a few bikes head over to the UK, ride what ye like with an appoinment and a copy of your licence.

I was changing my unmentionable and the salesperson was pushing me to go for electric because of the economy.
When I calculated the fuel savings against the difference in purchase price I found that I would need to keep the same yoke for TWENTY years before I made any saving and that was not even counting the cost of having to replace the battery a few times.

Forget it.

Bikes need to have a soul .

I hope it takes off and many start using it. Maybe then ICE won't die altogether. The idea of leccy on a bike or cage seems ludicrous because of the weight it has to shift, the weight and safety of the battery, the current materials needed in the battery, the lifetime of the battery and indeed the time it takes to charge.

Maybe it's time to bring back the 2 stroke? A small injected (light) 2T motor and an electric motor - the ultimate hybrid!

If everyone moved to leccy yokes today, what do you think would happen?
Would we suddenly stop global warming? Not a hope.
Would the scum in leinster house suddenly be down some serious coin from the drop in fuel tax?Damn straight.
So what'll they do?They'll invent a new tax on electricity so you'll end up where you won't be able to switch on the lights in your house.
But it's ok,you wont have to queue to pay for fuel

Its not all negative though, Ricky's thought of the day continues..

Electric vehicles are probably not something you'd want to leave in a garage (that was connected to a house or anything important) overnight then, but when petrol prices hit 24€ / litre - being cremated will be the least of your worries I guess.

Anyone who seen the Electric Bike at the NEC this year will remember the price and it was only being built to order and only 300 were being built. I wondered why until the girl offered me the option to try out the simulator. It was an experience but so was the price when she told me that the bike comes with no key, a helmet matched to the bike with cameras front and rear, a jacket that is also in mode with the bike and now the shock.
€90,000 ............... no it's not a mistake 90 grand for an electric bike.
