Licencing Question

My Mrs got her German licence swapped for an Irish one. The German licence covered her to drive mopeds. She also got A motorcycles on the new Irish licence. Is that a full licence? I'm on a Canadian one atm, so can't compare.

Re: Licencing Question

More than likely not. There possibly is a special code on the back of the license limiting use to tricycles only. Only way to know is look at the back and find the code beside A.

Re: Licencing Question

A* Motorcycles (with or without a sidecar) and motor tricycles 24 years (20 years via progressive access)
*Learner permits for category A were restricted to motorcycles of 25kW or less. This restriction continued for two years after obtaining your first driving licence for category A. This restriction still applies to learner permits and driving licences issued before 19 January 2013.

Re: Licencing Question

Jesus wept.
The * next to the A above is to denote that the reader refers to the text marked with an asterisk. I've literally quoted the relevant section of the licence codes that the OP would see if he or anyone else could be bothered to click on the link.
It's been a long week of night shifts, I'm going to bed.....

Would hazard a guess; its more to the point - they are cleared to remain licensed until then.

Re: Licencing Question

Thanks for the replies.

Do those 3 wheel mopeds count as trikes? She was quite excited about commuting on something bigger than 50cc., but doesn’t want to do ibt.

Re: Licencing Question

I'd hazard a guess at yes, as the only other kind of trike license I know of would be covered as part of the B category

Re: Licencing Question

You'd want to get it checked out with rsa or someone as technically speaking yes they are a tricycle but they act more like a regular bike in that you need to lean etc.
