Did that. No joy. I also tried holding down the button while turning on the ignition. The alarm led started blinking fast and the engine is immobilised. Took me some effort disconnecting/reconnecting...

You don't need a spanner to take spark plugs out. It's a socket wrench you're looking for and you can use mine if you want.
