Sumo unleashed

She's done. Had her out for a check ride today for a little bit. I'd forgotten just how mental these things are.

how do you upload pictures

Still a bit of a bugger to start but improved coil and platinum plug have helped no end. Fingers crossed that the weather holds for paddy's day at mondello.

Cheers lads. It's mental on a scale that most bikers will never experience either on or off the track, even with 4t 450 crossers. Even with a 40 tooth rear it just wants to either spin or go skywards. I suspect it will be a handful on track until I can get the suspension dialled in. But fuckit, the smell alone is worth it.

Lovely, is it a 450 frame? Looks like a tidy job. Id love one of these but the cr 500 is gone crazy money, even for a non runner

250 CRF modified frame. Yeah the engines are getting pricey. You would be looking at 3.5K for a complete engine. Even crank cases are the bones of a grand. There are plenty of service parts out there but most of it is now yank or aussie.

Very very nice! Good job.
Is she just for racing or for the street too??

Re: Sumo unleashed

Has all the necessary bits to be road legal but it would be a bit of a nightmare on the street. Vibrates a lot. I'm still considering registering it but it ain't easy.

Yea I can imagine, you wouldn't be commuting on her but it would be some craic going out for a spin and watching all the heads turn and jaws dropping!!
Is it costly to get her road legal or is it more to do with the hassle of it?

You'd have to keep a finger over the clutch on that thing at all times. Did some grasstrack on the 500's, they're a handful when you can spin up the rear, nightmare with near perfect grip on tarmac with road tyres. You feel like you lost your hands after 15mins :lbhbh:

Yeah. Lots of sore muscles today. Little bit of arm pump on Saturday but not that bad mostly because it was cold and wet and I wasn't braking hard. Or really accelerating hard. But in fairness, it's not like a thousand or even a 4 cylinder 600, it's just 60 hp in a very light package with some odd engine characteristics. It's not effortlessly quick which makes it a LOT of fun, and the effort makes it worth bringing it out.

It's crazy that they're such a physical workout, awful lot of moving around on it. Try gripping the frame with your legs more during breaking and accelerating to help the arms out - helps you to loosen your grip and cut down on armpump.
