Awesome, heavy and you need deep pockets to get hold of one. They don't come cheap. You won't regret it.

The z1300 just doesn't look as good, the watercooling jacket takes from the look, the Benelli is class alright.

Until the engine craps out. Then you will, especially when you're applying for a mortgage.
Still love one though :cool3:

Don't need a mortgage, one house is enough, one bike isn't

the mortgage is for the rebuild, that's assuming you can find the bits.

Benelli sei is an extended Honda CB 500/4...the Z1300 is overly complicated with all kinds of engine balance chains...CBX 1000 is the best of the breed:bikerie:

Re: Honda CBX

I have one, as SoulX mentioned, you would need a second mortgage if the engine blows up, that said, they are a very reliable lump, the only person I've heard of that blew an engine was a guy from Northern Ireland and that was due to him travelling from Munich to Ireland in a hurry, didn't check the oil levels and the bike crapped out in the UK. My biggest worry is the gobshite on the phone that pulls out, the standard brakes are notoriously bad as they were on the vast majority of 70's bikes, so decorating the side of a Civic is much more likely than blowing an engine.
As regards living with a CBX, maintenance demands patience, lots and lots of patience, trying to balance six carbs can be a barrel of laughs, think it took me the best part of a week to get them just right the last time, you also need the right tools i.e. those long screwdrivers with a 90 degree bend at the end. The valves are even more fun, there are 24 bucket and shim valves to set up, by far the easiest way to do these is to join the CBX club and hire their box of shims, that way you can do the job in one go.
Another weird idiosyncrasy is that you have to be careful about leaving the bike on the sidestand for any length of time, if the fuel tap is left open, petrol can seep into cylinder one, if the bike is started, hydrolock can potentially bend the con rod, that means a full rebuild. I have gotten into the habit of turning the engine over with the kill switch off if the bike is laid up for any length of time to avoid this happening.
Other than that the bike is fun to ride and handles surprisingly well for a machine of that vintage and weight, as was mentioned before, they are now stupid money, I only have one 'cos I bought it 14 years ago.

Very much so, same bore and stroke too...56 x 50.6...was also same as the CB250 of the time.
