Bros 400 possible fuel pump issue

Hi lads, have myself a bros 400 here and it's recently started breaking down on the road. First I thought it was a battery problem but doubtful now as it starts to lose power and has started backfiring recently. It chugs to a stop and cuts out. She turns over fine but won't fire. End up having to get trailered home. In the shed now won't start at all. I'm thinking fuel starvation, possibly a fuel pump fecked? Any suggestions where to go from here? I'm fairly clueless when it comes to the whole mechanical side of things. Would it be best to bypass the pump to see if it's the pump itself? Any suggestions appreciated cheers

Or would it be the fuel pump relay?

Have you opened the filler cap to make sure the tank is not airlocked? You should hear pump prime. Otherwise get a short length of fuel hose and bypass the pump completly, bike will runn and you'll know that the pump is knackered:thumbsup2:

Check for spark too. Coils may sometimes fail intermittently, and then absolutely.

Can you check the float bowls by opening the drain screw to see if it's empty?
And check the battery is good too

If it does turn out to be the fuel pump you should look up the SV640 vacuum pump mod for the bros.

Thanks for the help lads appreciate it, I bypassed the pump with a gravity feed and a short piece of pump and she ran not a bother! So does this defo mean the pump is knackered or could it still possibly be the relay? Should i bypass the relay directly to the battery to see does the pump work and then I'd know if it was the relay or does that make sense. New battery put in only a week ago error 52 sound

I can see that bros use same pump as Duville. Those pumps last 40-50k Km.
Open a back of the pump and there is a point switch inside. If points worn out, pump will stop working. You can replace them. Its easy job and new point switch is 20 on ebay.

But before you buy anything check relay as well just to be sure.

It could be the relay but they are quite reliable, the wiring can cause issues though...but my money would be on the pump. Usually the contacts fail and can stick, you can replace them but it's 50/50 on the pump being burnt out. You can run it on gravity feed but you won't get the last few litres from the tank so you'll need to keep it topped up, alternative is to get an sv 650 vaccum pump or you can get a tourmax genuine mitsubishi replacement that runs the correct flow rate. Some lads go with facet but I've had trouble with them in the past so I don't recommend them anymore

Excellent lads fair play, I'll go have another go at it and I'll give yous an update

Cheers Davy, that was my next question, regarding the flow rate. Came across a few different types, the one on it is a mitsubishi one so I'll go with the same again

Re: Bros 400 possible fuel pump issue

One way to test the pump is to bypass the relay which should force the pump to start.
