had one as my second bike for a while, unbeatable reliability, check for rotting downpipes and clutch seals tend to go. stock calipers can get corroded to shite if not properly maintained.

Fantastic powerful monster. Nothing roars like a big kwak. You'll end up using it as your first bike. Great price for an immaculate bike too.

The ZZR 11 can be a fantastic bike. Most of them are now more than 20
years old, so they will probably need some care and attention.

Check the valve clearances.

Make sure the gearbox is ok.

The Tokico brake calipers need regular attention.

The bearings on the rear suspension linkage will probably
be knackered. Check for up-down play at the rear wheel
when the bike is on the centre stand.

Look for play in the rubber cush drive (rear sprocket carrier).

Condition of radiator and oil cooler. Rad damage is usually caused
by a broken mounting for the metal cowl around the cooling fan.

Check the fuel tank for rust or leaks.

The original exhaust is probably knackered by now. ZZR1200
headers will bolt straight on and give more options for choosing
a pair of cans.

Check all the usual items on older bikes. As the ZZR is fast and
heavy, it is hard on fork seals and steering head bearings. Check
the damping on the rear suspension.

Mine has been reasonably reliable. The biggest and most expensive
problem with mine was multiple failures of the speedometer. This was
eventually solved by fitting a brand new zero-miles speedo unit (€100+), new
genuine Kawasaki speedo cable and a S/H speedo drive taken from a ZX9-R.

Had the calliper issues with those old Tokicos on all my ZZ-R4 and 6, as well as ZXRs.

Get the Tokicos from a GSX-R600/750 K1-K3.

They need to be drilled and tapped for an M10, as they use M8 as standard.
But once you have, they bolt straight on and are made of a much better alloy that does no corrode anythign like the old ones.

Have done this on my ZXR750-R and they stand up well to even track level usage.

on the caliper subject, caliper spacers can be bought and remove the need for drilling and tapping, also nissin 4 pots can be made fit from a fireblade (did it myself) makes for really good brakes and much better reliability :smileee:
