Indicator flash problem
Lads,
On my 990 the indicators flash quicker upon acceleration. I've changed the flasher relay and I've a new regulator/rectifier in it as a precaution. It still flashes like mental. What do you reckon it might be? The only other thing I fitted to the bike around the time this began to occur was OEM KTM heated Grips. Im gonna disconnect them later on to see but barring that, I'm stumped. I'm very bad with electrics :bag: Thank you :) |
Re: Indicator flash problem
You have a bad earth somewhere me thinks

Re: Indicator flash problem
+1
If all the bulbs are working then your indicator relay earth is probably crusty/loose. |
Re: Indicator flash problem
You must have got all the extras on yours, adaptive indicators and all, faster ya go the faster they flash!
Check the contacts on the indicator switch end connection too under the headlight mask, had some corrosion on mine as they water was sitting at that point. |
Re: Indicator flash problem
Thanks lads. I'll attempt to do all of those things. I must go on a motor electrics course because I really am very dumb to even the smallest issue :wassat:
How would you lads go about finding a dead earth if it was you? Thanks again!! |

Re: Indicator flash problem
If you can find the indicator relay, there should be a wire coming out of it that is just connected to the frame with a little screw. I'm guessing the heated grips are connected to the same earth point as well.
Take it off give all the exposed metal bits a good scrub with some WD-40 or such and if you see any corrosion give it a touch of some sandpaper. Screw it all back together and put a smear of vaseline over it to try to keep the water out. As hornethead said check and clean the other connections. And maybe disconnect the battery and clean where the negative battery terminal wire is connected to the frame, same as above. Just don't weld yourself to the bike with the battery.:thumbsup2: |
Re: Indicator flash problem
That's a great help folks thank you :) I'll go at that in the morning and report back with my misadventures! :)

Re: Indicator flash problem
Isn't it just teh bike getting more excited when you accelerate?:devil:
Does it slow down when you break? :ninja: I'll get my coat |
