Vintage / Classic Bike Insuance

Well lads / lassies,
Have been off the bikes for a few years and now have a track bike and small old road bike to play with.

It's been a few years since i had a bike on the road and now have something that might get brought out every now and then when its finished. Who's the best for classic / vintage policies and any idea what they are like? Who does them? Minimal mileage and TPO will be grand.

Are CN still in Ireland?

Re: Vintage / Classic Bike Insuance

Yes Carol of the Nashes is still with us, but since Brexit they're now placing policies with AXA....
And in my case, it was quite a bit cheaper to insure 3 bikes TPF&T with CN, than going direct to AXA, despite my getting a bike insurance discount from AXA for having the car insured with them. Makes no sense but that's the norm for bike insurance..
There's also Liberty and Principal in the Irish bike insurance business, and realistically, you're best off calling all 4 of them, as any one of them might give you a decent quote, depending on your age, experience, the bike you're insuring, the colour of your hair ( or was it the colour of your eyes?), where you live, how secure your overnight bike parking is, when the next high tide ( or was it the next full moon?) is going to be, etc, etc. etc.......
And with all that, it still beats handing over a lump of cash to Norwich Union, back in the day when it was pay whatever number they pulled out of a hat, when Norwich Union were the only bike insurers in the country!

What a joke of a country when it comes to bike insurance!! Because i haven't insured a bike in 6 years so I'm back to 0 years NCB (ok fine with that) but now I can't get a quote from anyone. CN want 1 years NCB, Liberty said the bike is too old!! AXA won't even quote me without doing training!!!

What the flock are you supposed to do?!!!

Buy a cheap modernish bike for a year, sell it again next summer or keep as a winter hack, lots of stuff out there if you're not fussy.

As I’m considered a “starter” again and the bike is a high risk category as it’s a super sport they can’t give me a quote!!! Did ya ever hear such utter shite?

Got a quote of €290 from MCE in the end, had given up when they rang back.

That's not bad Chas. What bike is it anyway? In the classic territory myself and found all the companies good to deal with. A good tip I was given is to kick off the policy with a regular bike, heck even a scooter, and simply add the classic bike as a 2nd bike for a nominal fee, it seems to change the criteria enough to make it work.

I remember your sweet GSXR from years back - still got it?

Which one? Had a good few over the years. Miss the K6 the most though.

Back to basics again and got a 88 GSXR400 to do a few jobs on.

While the quote might seem ok wait till you hear this, the breakdown is as follows:
Insurance cover €125
Documentation / admin fee € 172
Comes all in at €297.06!!

I'm fairly sure it's against Consumer Protection to have the docs/admin fee higher than the insurer's premium :wassat:

But yeah a bit mad nobody would quote you on a GSXR400 due to being a shuper shportsh

No I sold that back in 2005 to buy the first R6 (Red / White one) - went looking for it recently and found out it was smashed to pieces in a crash. :crybaby:

Have had a few more bikes that I haven't posted there, gone through a good few over the years!!

Loved that little 400 Techie- one of the reasons I took the current one when it came up.

Great history with it, my brother used to own it in 1991-93 and sold it to buy a GSX-R750. It disappeared for a few years until I found it in a mates shed in 2003, had been sitting for years. Took a while but persuaded him to sell it and i had it for a year or so. Should have kept it, originals are making mental money now

Savage wee yoke - sorry to hear it's gone.

Latest one looks interesting - wasn't gone on the colours at first glance but it's growing on me.

I didn’t mind it at first but it had grown on me.

Was pricking around with photoshop yesterday, would look well if the orange was grey!!

Priority is to sort the last few bits and then worry about paint.
